respect

Kind of depends on the person. I respect people just because they are living human beings. If someone is fair and honest with me then I tend to respect them more.

I respect people more intelligent than myself....I think I respect like 2 people.

I kid I kid... Yeah...I respect my parents and grandparents...you have to earn it with me. I don't just respect some no-name person who I know nothing about....not saying they don't deserve respect from anyone but just won't get any from me.

Also this isn't to say that I disrespect them...I suppose I have a certain level of tolerance for people that you either earn more "points" from that position...or you lose them...based on actions.

In all seriousness, do you see yourself as more intelligent than most other people?
Tas.

Seriously...yes I do see myself as being more intelligent...than the average person....I don't know about "most" people...that seems to be too large of a category to me.

I am one of those crazy B4stard's whom hates the word Respect and will blatantly tell you you are a fool if you are so dumb as to say "It's All About Respect". It's all about the unopened beers, on the other hand, gives my little heart a twinkle.

despite his lame attempt at comedy,i agree with him, that respect is earned. however i dont disrespect someone off the bat. people i respect: my family membersmy grad school mentor, my friends.

They have to prove they are somewhat intelligent before I'll respect them, so when it comes to say rappers... I have no respect.

I tend to think what people have posted is resonable. Like I said respect comes in degrees. There are those I respect, yet don't personally know.

I respect everyone lest they give me a reason not to.

 The janitor lady working late in my building. I always smile and say thanks when she comes in when I am working late.

 To bus driver who picked me up in front of Murphy when I don't want to walk all the way back to work -- I always make sure to say my thanks when I get off the bus.

 my waiter at my local restaurant -- I made sure to call him by his name and give him his 20% tip.

 my kind boss who always asked me how I am doing -- I always make sure to ask her back and actually care for what she has to say.

Then there are those who are very dear to me...I respect them even more: my family, friends, relatives =).

Respect could mean from a stranger on the road who you let passed to your dearest loved ones who you care for. That is my definition.

I only really respect people that are articulate and intelligent, or by default those in authority.

On a lower level I guess I respect the avg. person by being civil.

My take on respect is this: by default I respect everyone until they've proven to me that they're unworthy. Take one of the regional managers at work, when I first started at the company I respected him because that's just what I do. Now, however, he's proven to me (and pretty much our entire division) that he's a nitpicky, micro-managing, pompous neanderthal that would actually do the company a favor by never coming to work again. That fool has lost any respect and credibility he may have had and there's not a chance he'll get it back.

I let people think I respect them. It's all the same to them, I suppose, if they don't know what I really think of them. So... I get the benefits of a good relationship with many people without the emotional involvement.
