I am having a resource conflict with my geforce 4 420MX PCI video card. The conflicting device list in the device properties says the following:

Memory Range 00000000 - 00FFFFFF used by:
System board extension for ACPI BIOS
Memory Range 00000000 - 00FFFFFF used by:
System board extension for ACPI BIOS
Memory Range 00000000 - 07FFFFFF used by:
System board extension for ACPI BIOS
Memory Range 00000000 - 07FFFFFF used by:
System board extension for ACPI BIOS
Memory Range 00000000 - 0007FFFF used by:
System board extension for ACPI BIOS
Memory Range 00000000 - 0001FFFF used by:

I don't know how to resolve this issue. My motherboard is a MSI 845PE Max. And my OS is windows 98 second edition. I would appreciate any assistance.

If it's a PCI card, try moving it to a different PCI slot. Some board have dedicated IRQ assignments to some slots. Also, check your CMOS for any settings that may relate to your vid card.

^^my friend created this thread^^

We have tried moving the PCI video card from slot 2 to slot 1 on the motherboard. The conflict was not resolved. Can we disable ACPI in windows? we tried to disable it through the BIOS and it didn't work. Does anyone know if installing windows XP would resolve this issue?

here is a diagram of the PCI slots

PCI1: Geforce4 420MX

PCI2: empty

PCI3: sound blaster live card

PCI4: NIC

PCI5: empty

PCI6: empty

(crazybastard111: I can get you winxp~DC)

This isn't XP.

Did you install Windows using the command line setup /p j? This sets the system up properly for ACPI.

I'll look at the bios and find out. I just assumed that P&P would be enabled by default. thanks for the tip.

Edit: MSI only has one bios update for this board and It doesnt look like it addresses this issue. Eh I'll flash it anyway... thx

Actually no, I wasn't aware of that command line. Will this command work for normal windows 98 setup? I had to upgrade it to SE after I installed the OS. Where did you learn about the /p j extention? Is it in the setup help file? This is probably what is responsible for my ACPI conflicts. Thank you for the info.

Since it's Win98 SE, DO NOT enable P'n'P in the BIOS. I've tried it both ways, and it always works better for me if P'n'P is not enabled.

It's in some of the Windows 98 documentation somewhere. Since I don't have Windows 98 anymore, I can't tell you exactly.

The /P overrides any other switches with the arguments that come after it. J forces a fully ACPI compliant installation. Normally Windows 98 will not do a fully ACPI compliant installation unless your system is listed in the (very out of date and very limited) ACPI compliant systems table.
