Resolving web pages is slow.

The pages seem to act like they are connecting and then just come up real quick.
Even Google is slow, but then just pops up in a hurry.

I tried many different DNS servers on the WAN side of my router to no avail.

With the same IP at my father's house he loads pages fast, even on W/L B.

Our connections are both 10/1 from the same provider.

I think either we have a rougue NIC in the network or just the router is starting to die/restart randomly as the logs are cleared when I try to browse them. (not during heavy torrent usage either (gotta love Linux...))

run nslookup from a command prompt and type in some websites. That will tell you if it's DNS.

run normal virus/badcrap scans.

It resolves the IP quickly (within 'nslookup') but it just lags in displaying the page.
Here it was happens:
-Type in address or go to another page
-Cached items are displayed
-Connects to site/directory
-Sits for about 5-8 seconds
-BOOM! it just displays it.
I mean it isn't like showing the stuff as it is being downloaded and it isn't fast.

Downloading files and such and pings to game servers and pings to me from clients is quick but web browsing is a pain.

you have a software/spyware problem.

I really doubt it as it is the same performance on computers that haven't even touched the network.
I will reformat later this week or so and tell you the results, I doubt it is that however.
I never get redirected to pages or anything so...

much to learn about troubleshooting you have.

run wireshark on the problem machines to see what is really going on. Eitherway, it's not a network problem.

Your answers are helpful but your condescending tone is not.

I ran Spybot last night and THE ONLY thing it found were some cookies so....

Everything seems to be working like normal, but just slow, I think it may be the ISP.
There is some retransmissions but those are rare, and the rate is probably normal.

This program really shows some activity with uTorrent 😛
No Internet traffic when idling, only Intranet traffic and that is only when updating the switch's list. (gah, forgot what it was called....)

I cloned the MAC address of the WAN port on the router the same as my computer and I think it sped it up a LITTLE bit, still slow!??!
Why would that even give a little performance boost?
Weird.
Still not nearly as fast as my Dad's connection.

Yes, I have reset and unplugged the router and modem for the recommended times.

I did change the firmware a few weeks ago but it didn't seem to affect it at the time, I may revert, but this firmware version said it gave better performance!?!?

Yeah, bypassed the router and the fvcking thing works like it should.
Time to get a new router....
F***!!!!
These things are expensive.
It seems all of the routers of mine just go bad over time, is this normal!?!?

NVM, got mine working GREAT!!!
Flashed to 624 from 524!!!
Sucker works just like straight from the modem, must have been the firmware or something..

There were lots of problems with the DI-524. As far as I know, they NEVER got the firmware for the DI-524 completely bug-free. At its release, it was probably the least-stable router out there.

It is completely great now 😛
