I recently bought an external hard disk but when connected to the usb on my laptop it gives an error message tht the power is not sufficient. The harddisk came with a dual connector and so i have to use 2 USB ports to connect the harddisk. Is it possible to increase the power output on a USB port so tht i can connect the harddisk on one USB port?
 
u mean for the harddisk?? i don see an input..

Integrated USB ports have limited power capacity anything more than a relatively recent notebook drive with the latest low-power technology would probably overtax it. Use a powered USB hub (has its own wall wart) to support Amp-sucking devices or use a PSU attached directly to the device.
. Another way to do it is to bring 5V from a drive connector directly to the USB jacks on the back or front of your computer - not hard to do but does require some knowledge of PCBs (printed circuitry) and soldering.

The power limit for an USB port, regardless of where it is, is 500mA. There are _no_ harddisks in 2.5" or 3.5" sizes that can live off that.
 
Just edit the thread title. Add "RESOLVED - " to the front of the title - don't change the rest of the title as others can see what the suggestions are if this thread applies to them.
