I recently put together a Duron 1000 and MSI K7T Turbo (special edition) ... system, and it seems to have trouble recognizing my USB devices, especially my logitech optical mouse. What can I do to get it to recognize my mouse?? A system isn't much fun without one. 😉

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance! found the problem, thanks!!!

Did you remember to turn on the usb in the bios. You may have to install USB filters on a VIA chipset. I'm sorta new to the VIA camp so correct me if I'm wrong on the USB filters part.

Well, if my memory serves me right, I'm going to agree with you. Will look for the filter on the net... and give linkage.

USB filters? Never had to use them before. What exactly are they, where do I find the right one, and how do I use them?

Thanks!

I was over at VIA's website and the USB filters are for a older chipset than yours (KT133?). But I did come across something saying that only so many devices can be hooked up to USB because of power supplied by the USB. Have you tried just using the mouse by itself and unhooking all other USB devices (if possible)?

<< Yep, only the mouse was connected. Other devices seem to be recognized just fine! >>

My only guess is to look at the BIOS and look for USB mouse 'disable' to 'enable' I do remember seeing on my Epox 7kxa for USB keyboard to work that had to be changed.

I noticed a setting that says "USB Mouse Enable/Disable and USB Keyboard Enable/Disable" and set both to enable. Still no go.

Can't find the USB to PS2 convertor. 🙁

Is this a previous mouse you used on your older mobo? I'm out of ideas at this point 🙁 OH!!!! Just thought of one, try another USB port!!! I do remember reading or hearing that one port was more for bigger USB devices and the other was for smaller..... Ok, now I'm out of ideas.....

This probably won't be of much help. But there was this guy once with an old VIA ApolloPro133a board. He used a PCI -> USB card and basically nothing can be recongnised through the USB ports.

I tried many things to try to get it working. In the end I reseated the card and it managed to recongnise "something" is attached through the port. I had to instally drivers in advance for the USB ports and they don't recongnise anything hot plugged. I still don't know what that's the case probably just because it's an old board.

Hm... but in your case it's different.... Can you get hold of another USB mouse? Or maybe try your mouse on another system?

Don't have any other USB able systems at this time. (writing this on an old p166!) hmm... this is kind of tough, not quite sure what to do next!

Everything usb is not working period. This is VERY weird, I've never heard or seen something like it. Any ideas???

<< Tried both ports, no luck! BTW, congrats on becoming a Senior member 🙂 >>

Hmmm, ok I was going through MSI's forums and seeing a lot of people having problems with the Turbo and USB. I saw one of the solutions being conflicting IRQ's with video cards or the PCI cards. Try moving the PCI cards around, if you have any, to change the IRQ assigning. Example if your sound card is in PCI slot 1 move it to PCI 2 or 3, if it's in PCI 2 or 3 move to PCI 1 or 4 or 5. I know Epox 7kxa had this problem.

Lastly..... reinstall Windows 🙁 😱

Ok, now I think I'm out of ideas 😉

EDIT: Just saw your last post, go into Device Manger and remove the USB controller. Reboot and reinstall those drivers.

<< uhh.... my AGP video card is on the same IRQ as the USB stuff! What now?!? 🙁 >>

Yeah I had this problem initially on my board as well. It still worked though, nothing
prevented me from using my USB mouse. After I installed the USB drivers,
Windows automatically re-assigned the IRQ of the USB controller to something else.
(AGP and USB were both on 11, Windows re-assigned the USB to IRQ3)

<< uhh.... my AGP video card is on the same IRQ as the USB stuff! What now?!? 🙁 >>

You might be able to reasign the IRQ's, try changing the USB IRQ.

Go into BIOS and change 'assign IRQ to USB' to disable

Another option:
Disable Legacy USB suppor.
Install the pc-2-pc port
Enable the corresponding usb ports in bios
Install Genelink PC-2-PC drivers from driver CD
Disable all network components in the driver options
But that might be for the KT266 chipset. Do you have the KT133A? Also are you overclocking?

I'm pretty sure that I've tried all of those settings! My computer refuses to put the radeon and usb stuff on seperate IRQs. Hmm... might a BIOS upgrade help?

Was that through Windows or the BIOS?

Hey all,

I found that the part of the USB bus that powers components was dead! Took it back to the shop I bought it from, and they replaced it with a brand new board. Everything seems to be working great now!

Thanks very much for the help everyone! (Especially you, motoamd! You kept at it 😉 )
