Hi,
I bought some new parts and I'm getting a successful POST beep but no video to my monitor. I'm running the minimum of
E2180
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
GSKILL ram
9600GT

I've verified that all parts are working fine on another machine EXCEPT for the mobo/proc b/c I don't have 775 parts to swap with them. Since I'm getting a successful post beep and all the internal connectors on the mobo seem to be working, is this a dead CPU?

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.
 
I have tried the other connector on the video card and I also tried an old x800XL pci-e that I was using on my old hardware. No difference. I swapped PSUs just to be safe, but same result.

I'd assume the mobo would be able to detect if the PCI-e slot was busted and would give warning beeps. So looks like it's the CPU. Bleh maybe I'll run over to MicroCenter later.

Wait one other thing, after I get the startup successful beep and power down the system through the power switch, the system turns off instantly when I press the switch as opposed to the usual 4-5 seconds. Is this an indicator of what my problem might be?
 
silly question.... are ALL the power connectors connected to the motherboard ??
 
power connectors that i have connected on the mobo:

main power from psu
4pin from psu that powers the cpu
cpu fan power
various little case front panel connectors such as power switch, reset, speaker, etc.

vid card is powered directly from psu

I think those are all of the essentials.
 
Maybe a bios update on the motherboard will fix the problem. There is an issue regarding some motherboards with Pci-Express 2.0 video cards.
 
thats why we asked you to try another video card, but you said you can't post, so you can't update bios. I have a spare celeron 420 I got just for purposes like this...

If you were in Portland, OR, I would let you borrow it. I don't have an idea, other than getting another MB,CPU to test.

Wow thanks for everyone's help, I just happen to be an idiot. Simply tried a different monitor and everything was fine. The monitor that wasn't working does work on my other system so I'm not quite sure what's going on there, but at least all my parts are fine! Thanks again everyone for trying to figure out what was just my own stupidity.
