DVD audio is not working but the video works alright. Just as if i pressed mute. I tried playing an mp3 disc and it works.

I have a Dell Inspiron Notebook with MS XP Service Pack 2. Please help.

1) Sounds dumb, but make sure the player isn't muted somehow (volume is turned up, mute not enabled, etc.)

2) Make sure you have your player/sound hardware set to decode DD5.1 audio internally. If it's trying to send it to an external decoder, you won't hear it through the PC.

You'd have to tell me, at the very least, what DVD player software you're using. Sound card settings are probably under Start/Settings/Control Panel/Sound.

You can also try a DVD with a stereo soundtrack (instead of DD5.1). That would eliminate the decoding as the problem.

I have a few moe doubts now. I really dunno how to check all these.. so could u tell me how i can check if my decoder itself is working.. or is available.. i remember someone uninstalling powerdvd off the system sometime back... is powerdvd just a player or a decoder??

Quoting FeuerFrei: Not only should you mention what DVD playing software you are using, you need to mention how you're routing the audio output.

ok.. Lets say am using Windows media player.. i din understand the bit where said routing the audio output.. Where do i check tht?? and how do i check which soundcard and decoder n stuff am using???

Are you using analog connections? and what sound card do you have? Oh and you shoud clarify. So you mean playing a DVD-A disc or playing the audio off a DVD. You need to clarify your hardware better
