OK. I posted my "situation" with XFX in a post, the "XFX is total crap..." one. Anyway, I got the RMA'ed card in, and plugged it in to the PC, and the SAME GODDAMN thing happened as before . So, what the hell could be the problem? Is it possible that its my machine hates 6800's and kills them upon insertion into the AGP slot? I did notice that as soon as I plugged in the card and booted the machine, a puff of dust came out of the fan. It seems to me that the card was sitting on a shelf, uncovered, somewhere in the RMA depot, because the top of the card was CAKED with dust. Anyways, my PC specs are in my sig, and if anyone else with a similar machine has had problems with 6800's let me know. And yes, I did have the aux power connector plugged in, and my PSU is a 450w unit from Antec. Thanx in advance

P.S.

The BIOS version for my mobo I'm using is 1.4 official, and have also tried reverting to v1.3, to no effect

The card does seem to be all the way seated, and I am A+ Certified, so I should know

The clock speeds (for anyone that cares) for the card are the NVIDIA default 350 core\500 memory

I have also not overclocked anything (not yet)

Also, my other card, a BFG Asylum FX 5700 Ultra, works fine with no problems.

************************************************************************************************

RESOLVED: I recieved the third and (hopefully!) final card on Monday, and it, along with the 67.03 drivers, and the latest BIOS, the card works BEAUTIFULLY! What's more, the card was pre-overclocked to a ball-busting 374\535 (core\memory). The original\default speeds for the 6800GT are 350\500, so this should yield a decent boost over the default GT's out there. I guess now, that this "saga" comes to a close, I am, at least as far as getting a working card goes, happy (although I am still upset at XFX's support :( ) Peace!

xfx are complete crap for service and quality, try the card in another machine, more than likely it will be fubared there again. rma once more to xfx if so, this time explaining the bs and make mention of the bbb and whatever other avenues are around to complain against them.. once again XFX IS TOTAL CRAP, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THEY MAKE. I know this from getting a 6800gt from them with underclocked ram, and the complete bullsh*t their tech support laid on me. DO NOT BUY FROM XFX

Could you give a quick recap as to what happened before, or a link to the thread? It would be *slightly* helpful.

Maybe it's not the car, but your PSU or motherboard?
Have you tried a different card in there at all? (I haven't read the previous thread, because you should give details in here, or update the original thread next time).

Sorry, the the card itself exhibits problems such as random pixels all over the screen, and after about a minute and a half, the computer completely locks and reboots. I have read on the net that there has been some problems with the nForce3 and the GeForce 6-Series and AGP fastwrite, so I did make sure to disable that when I started to have problems the first time.

As for trying the card in different computers, the card doesn't work in 2 other machines (Intel-based) so that is what leads me to believe that the card is bad. Also, my previous card, a BFG GeForce FX 5700 Ultra card, works just fine in the machine.

The URL for the "XFX is total crap.." thread is HERE.

Wow I'm having the exact same problem with my BFG 6800 ULTRA. With the stuff all over the screen, and the random reboots.

I'm having the same problem too with my XFX 6800GT. It works fine on my campus PC which is an A64/NF3-250 system, but I brought it home and plugged it into my P4/i865 system and I'm getting the same symptoms(random pixelization/video corruption/freezing/lockups). The windows video corruption looks like this but it happens upon startup too.

I've posted 2 relevant threads here and here but thus far nobody has been able to help either.

Until now I haven't had any problems with my XFX 6800GT though, and right now it's working perfectly in my dad's computer, just not mine.

Are you using the 66.93 drivers on the computer that doesn't work? If so, try the 67.03 drivers, which reportedly fix problems with 6600GT GPU's, but the problems said to be fixed are the same as what we are both experiencing. BTW, the screenshot you posted is the EXACT SAME THING, COLORS, TYPE, THE WHOLE NINE YARDS as what I'm experiencing! As I said, try the 67.03 drivers and tell me if that fixes anything, just a thought. I would, but my card is being mailed off to XFX for another RMA :(

i'm sorry to hear you guys are having so many problems with XFX cards...i just purchased a XFX 6800nu, i'm sittin pretty at 360/800 16x1,6 58c idle 70c load stock cooling, no problems whatsoever...

granted, all this talk has me worried, and i sure hope i..."got lucky?" its pretty horrible that one should have to say they "got lucky" by recieving a fully functional card.

This may be a power issue. I had artifacting with my GT as well until I removed the extension cable running from my PSU to the card. I would recommend running the power directly from the PSU to the card, no Y's and no sharing power on that line. Your sitiuation seems to indicate something wrong with the specific system, not the card. Ever since I removed the extension cable from between the card and the PSU, I have had zero problems with the card and I am running a P4/i865 setup as well. Hope this helps.

I know that you stated that it couldn't possibly be a power issue in your other thread, but when I had the same problem and people were telling me it was a power issue I didn't beleive them either. Since I have an Antec Tru550 the idea that my card wasn't getting enough power seemed ridiculous, but these cards really do seem a bit finicky when it comes to getting clean power. Btw... What kind of PSU are you using?

nitro, power problems were among the first suspicions I had, but if that was the case, what I don't understand is why it wouldn't work on my system, with a very capable Enermax EG465P-VE 431W PSU, but would work on my dad's system, with a lesser Toppower 320W PSU. I've tried disconnecting all my case fans and minimizing my system components to one HDD, one DVD burner and 1 soundcard, but still, the problems exist. The 9700Pro that was in the system didn't exhibit this problem, and to my knowledge the 9700Pro is also a very power hungry card.

In any case, I've tried connecting the 6800GT with various power molex cables, but again, the problem still exists. I'm really out of ideas now.

indeed, don't think that XFX just makes crappy products...picky mabye, but not crappy. there has to be a reason why this is happening, and no, not because the card "sucks"

Here is a screenshot of what I'm having a problem with. I don't think its a power problem, but I'm going to try the card in another PC today to see if its truley faulty or if its something in my PC.

Mine started out working perfectly too, but slowly turned to this.

Here is a pic of what I'm getting. This is supposed to be Windows startup screen I think.

My card is a BFG 6800 Ultra, so its not only XFX.

We all seem to have MSI boards though. Two of us have 865 chipsets as well.

XFX is crap once again, obviously one would expect the majority of cards to work, but when there are such a high # of XFX cards that do not work well, well why not just buy one from another vendor. XFX IS CRAP! Give yourself one round with their 'tech' support and you'll see. They are totally useless. When I got my 6800gt with the underclocked ram at 900mhz, there were plenty of other people on this forum who had gotten the same crap. It took me a week to get the tech support to agree to rma it, the morons there just kept giving me the run around, asking me to change my drivers ? WTF? for underlocked RAM? Than the moron asked me to see if I could overclock the card to 1000, to which I replied am I still going to be covered under warranty ? Of course no reply.. XFX is crap.. do not buy from them, with so many choices.. go elsewhere and save yourself the hassle.

OMG, I can't belive I am the exact same problem. I have BFG 6800GT OC. Only had it for 4 months and it just started to have this problem.

Let me know if anyone finds any solution to fix this or else I'll call BFG.

TIA

I am using XFX 6800 and overclocked at 350/800 with pipelines unlocked. Everythings just goes fine..
Seems other brand users also got the similar problem, prob it's sth related to the chipset or nv design again..

FYI,

I called BFG and explained my situation and got a RMA immediately. Sent the card back and got a replacement card in about a week. Now the cards runs just super.

I just wanted to add that BFG support really came through for me. I was only on hold for less than 5 mins and got a RMA number right away. Two big thumbs up for overall experience with BFG.
