Resolution Problem

I am currently running an ATI Radeon 9800XT, and using Refresh Force to maintain 85hz in all of my games. At a res of 1280 x 1024 (which is also my desktop resolution), everything is fine. It is only when I lower it, say to 1280 x 960, that it doesn't take up the entire screen; it has shifted downward and to the right, or just simply downward. Depends on the game. Happens in Farcry, UT2004 etc. Moreover, in Call of Duty, the entire screen darkens as well. Any ideas?

I assume you have a multisync CRT monitor -- you'll need to adjust the geometry settings separately for each resolution (if you're using an LCD with DVI, than I have no clue what your problem is).

As far as CoD -- well, it's an OpenGL game (the others aren't), and some games are darker than others. Look for a "gamma" or "brightness" control in the game, or you can tweak it in the driver panels. Are you running the latest drivers?

Hmm...I've never had to adjust the geometry settings for each res., not in the game anyway. (I've definitely had to do it on the desktop). I'll give it a try though.

It shouldn't be different in the game and on the desktop at a given resolution -- your monitor doesn't care what it's displaying, just what resolution/refresh it is. If it is, then I don't know what's wrong.

this is probably after a fresh install or something...because with my multisync I set the settings for each res I use.

Problem solved. Simple solution should seem so obvious too..;) In any case, thanks for the help!

I've got a 9800NP using the Omega drivers, and I've noticed a gamma problem in COD as well. It's random, but sometimes when I start COD, the entire screen looks dark and washed out. I simply go to the Graphics settings, and move the slider very slightly and the correct brightness is restore (even though I didn't move the slider much at all).

It doesn't happen every time, though. Is that the same thing that's happening to you?

I would get the COD gamma problem once in a while, though it didn't happen very often. There was never any real pattern to it, except for switching resolutions, the first time.
