resolution problem with DMC 4

Initially when i was playing the game for the first time i was able to increase the resolution to 1680x1050. but after i ran a performance test, the resolution could not go above 1280x1024. do you guys know what's wrong. i have a 8800gts g92.
 
oh man i wish you could have told me that earlier. i did a system restore reinstall the games many times before i saw this solution. why does setting it to 59hz work though
