Resolution problem w/ TV

My roommate recently obtained a Toshiba 50HM67 DLP TV. We successfully hooked up a computer to it using a VGA cable. However, the TV will not do above a 1024x768 resolution. Anything above that and the TV gives an 'Upposrted Video Signal' screen before the PC changes back to 10x7. Is there any way to give the PC a wide screen resolution? Thanks.

Graphics card is something in the ATI X300/X550/X1050 series.

From your TV's manual:

? The following signal formats can be displayed:
Note: The edges of the images may be hidden.
Format Resolution V. Frequency
VGA 640 × 480 60Hz
SVGA 800 × 600 60Hz
XGA 1024 × 768 60Hz

To get full resolution use an HDMI connection.

If your only going to use it watch movies and general surfing I can highly recommend the
Asus EAH3450
It wont win any beauty contest and it's definitely not for heavy gaming but as a half height, (even comes with the bracket for both full & half height), fanless, HDMI capable output card it gets the job done nicely and the best thing about it, only $30, $20 after rebate. I just put one in my HTPC box and I have no complaints 1920 X 1080 progressive scan over HDMI. The only thing is the new catalyst drivers break the audio over HDMI. I just reinstalled the drivers that came with it and everything's fine.

If your TV has HDMI input and can do 720p or 1080p then use DVI-> HDMI and set it to that resolution

It is a known fact that most TV's using VGA input have some sort of resolution limit set on them

I'm currently using a VGA connection on my brand new 58" 1080P Samsung Plasma display & it looks light years better than the HDMI connection did. I run at full 1080P (1920x1080) without any problems. It's funny because I was always under the impression that HDMI would produce the best image on a large display.
