Here is a copy/paste of the message I just posted on the World of Warcraft Tech Support forums. I figure my chances of getting a response there are very small; so I thought I'd throw this up and see if any ananders could help.

For Reference; because I just recieved the monitor last night, I have not been able to test this problem with any game other than World of Warcraft. I will try HL2 and a few other games tonight. . .

So here is my story. . . Sorta complex, but I will try to explain it to the best of my abilities.

Since WoW launched I have been playing on a 19" CRT (Viewsonic PF790), I also have a 15" LCD (Viewsonic VG151B) running via NView (Nvida's dual monitor software, included in Forceware/Detonator Drivers). I have had absolutely no problems with this setup; I run WoW on the CRT in 1280x1024 and have my LCD running my browser, ventrillo server, and ventrillo client in 1024x768 (via DVI).

Here is where my problem begins. . . . Yesterday I recieved my shiny new Imagequest L90D+ 19" LCD (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=24-179-014&DEPA=1) from Newegg. I ordered it to replace my CRT, with the intentions of running 2 LCD's side by side. So I remove the CRT form my desk and setup the 19" LCD. I transfer the DVI cable from the 15" to the 19" and hook the 15" up via Analog (D-Sub). So now I have my 19" running via DVI at 1280x11024 (Native) and the 15" running via D-Sub at 1024x768 (Native). Everything functions properly on the desktop, and man does the 19" look unreal.

So I anxiously fire up WoW, eager to check out my investment in action. I should have known something was wrong just from the login screen; 800x600 -- NP; i figure it just reset my config because of the new hardware. I log into the game, open the options menu, and to my absolute horror the highest resolution listed is 1024x768. The major problem with this is the Native Res on the 19" LCD is 1280x1024 so if you run in anything else, stuff looks absolutely AWFUL.

I play around for a bit with the Nview/Forceware options and no change. I disable Nview (effectively disabling the 15" Viewsonic) and give her a go. It works. . . . 1280x1024. And man; the game looks brilliant. So I thought maybe it had something to do with the Analog/Digital cables (not sure why, it just sounded resonable). No change. I fooled around for hours with this nightmare *LOL*.

Finally I wisened up. I took the 15" LCD off my desk, and threw back up the 19" CRT. Hooked it up via Analog and changed my Nview settings to reflect the new monitor. Fired up WoW, and just as I had been afraid of, the 1280x1024 option was available.

My best explanation for this freakness is someway, somehow WoW was not differentiating between the two LCD screens, and was only seeing the maximum resolution on the 15" LCD (Which happens to be 1024x768). Because of it only seeing the Max Res of the 15", it wouldnt let me move the resolution up any higher on the 19".

Now; I should remind you that I have played WoW for 6+ months (Closed Beta) with NView Enabled and the 15" LCD as the secondary monitor on the setup. I ran 1280x1024 on the 19" CRT without any hitches. I don't understand how hooking up a 19" LCD instead of the 19" CRT has changed anything.

Has anyone at Blizzard heard of this issue? Do you have any advice how to fix/band-aide it? Has any other users experianced this? Any help/advice would be apperciated.

If anyone has any questions or needs clarification on anything, please post to this thread.

Any have any input?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you may be right about the game detecting the available resolutions from the analog output despite running through the dvi connection. I'd probably try adding an unsupported resolution to the 15" through nView>change resolution>add. RivaTuner also allows you to create custom display modes for your monitor.

Fixed!

Riva Tuner does infact have a tool that helped me fix this.

The tool allowed me to "create" a driver file for the monitor with my own specifications.

Thanks to tk11 for mentioning Riva Tuner =)
