Resnet Sucks!

I am a freshman at RPI, and I was all excited about having the incredible bandwith that is offered by college resnet. Then I get here and discover that though i get 700K/s downloads, there is severe packet-loss, caused by the school's firewall, that makes online gaming virtually impossible. I may as well be on dsl, because at least there is a smooth connection with dsl. Anyone else have problems like this?
 
well what do you expect, you are in college, maybe they don't want you to play online, and trust me, you'll thank them later. I for one didn't have that restriction and look at me now 🙁

hahahah i used to go to rpi, i transferred after a term

actually, the t1 connection at rpi is pretty good...700 is reaaaaaaally high since i was there two terms ago, yes there is packet loss, but i haven't experienced any trouble in gaming, not as much as i do now in my current university...

'n what're you doing playing with your computer? go mack on them chicks before they all get taken when the other 80% guys come...

I download at 100KB/s. Sucks donkey goats. But I'm not in my room much anyways.

Its not as though I want to sit here playing counter-strike all day. However, I do occasionaly want to fire up an internet game, and I can't.
 
the packet loss could be from all the losers who never leave their rooms though. when i first got here I was like damn this is fast. 20ms pings in games, and downloads sometimes approaching 1MB/sec...but now i don't even care. why would you wanna be on the comp all the time? the bottom floor here is the geek floor or something (this is not a knock on geeks, because i am one), they all sit in front of their monitors all day. free beer and pizza can't even get them out of their little havens. so don't become one of those...go out, drink, meet girls, etc.
in one way this could be considered a blessing. 🙂
 
Yeah well.. at least you dont have a download limit like I do.. 260 megs a day..


Might not seem too bad but believe me when I say it adds up quick.
