I have 2 partitions on my computer, C: for windows, and D: for everything else. I partitioned 3gigs for C and the rest of my 80gb hard drive for D. I thought those 3gigs would be plenty, and they have, until sp2 and all the other great windows updates came out. So now I have like 150mb left. So now I want to move some of the space from D to C, maybe a gig at the most. I have gotten partition magic 8, but was wandering if I should just use the windows version, right click my computer, manage, disk management. Which one should I use, and are there any tutuorials that you guys know of telling how to do this without screwing up your computer? Thanks

I don't think Windows itself can change a partition without deleting all it's contents. Partition Magic will do non-destructive repartitioning however it is highly recommended to backup beforehand.

An easy solution would be to move the virtual memory page file (pagefile.sys) to the D: partition.

other options:
- turn off system restore
- disable hybernation
- delete all the $NtUninstallKxxxxxxx$ files from the winnt or windows directory
- set the ammout of space available for IE's temps files to a small number like 5 mb

This is how you do it with Partition Magic.

1- Backup your data on CDs or DVDs.
2- Resize D and make it smaller by 1G or whatever size you want to transfer to C.
3- Move D up so that the unallocated space moves between C and D.
4- Resize C and make the unallocated apace between C and D to become part of C. For this one, Partition Magic will ask you to reboot to perform the change.

Windows disk manager does not allow resizing of partitions. I've used Partition Magic 7 and never had any problems with losing data.
