winload.exe issue now when I boot, can I fix this without reinstalling? which I think I'll have to format the partition in Vista to fix :(

What do you mean by "issue" when you boot? The program won't load? A blue or black screen with that listed? (winload.exe also appears to be a trojan which uses a valid Vista file's name.)

One result in Google found a thread where somebody managed to boot by disconnecting all their USB devices.

Here's another resolution.

get a error screen before the vista logo, says "winload.exe not found or has a problem"
sorry I didn't post more. Vista was working perfectly, and I used Acronis to resize my partition. Rebooted and the error started to come up. I'm guessing my only option is to format the parition and start over, any other ideas?

no NT Windows will boot after you change its starting sector, i.e. you resize its partition so partition starts on different sector.

For next time, you should be able to use the built in disk management tools to resize partitions in Vista.

Vista actually lets you resize partitions? Does it matter whether it's the system partition, or if they're dynamic or basic disks? I haven't heard any of the 3rd-party disk management application makers bitching so I didn't expect that to be something MS added in.

yeah, pretty much it does all that partition magic does. And what competition can do? it is not that we'll get Vista for free.

For example, Gparted also has all features of Partition Magic, and is free and open source.

You can resize the partition, you just cannot start it on a different sector ( EG Move the partition ).

I know this winload.exe is a big issue for a lot of people. I actually couldn't get Vista to install in the first place to do a Partition problem. I deleted, recreated, formatted a partition about 4 times. Then I finally got Vista to work by totally deleting the partition and letting Vista create it. When I resized I was thinking I was working on my 2nd HD not the one Vista's on (did this in XP) and now my Vista is b0rked. didn't really have anything installed besides office, and my drivers. But if there's any fix for the winload problem I'd love to know. Google turned up more questions then answers.
