Resistance Bands? Workout equipment in a small area?

Ok outside of making a major investment in dumbbells I was thinking of resistance bands. I will be living in a real small trailer for 4 days out of 8. I will have access to a gym the 4 days I am not at the trailer. I own "perfect pushups" so I was thinking of other things I could do for some sort of exercise. Any ideas besides bands and dumbbells?

I'm working in Alabama every Thursday evening through Monday morning for the next 7 weeks...I have a kettlebell, jump rope, and bands with me for mobility.

pullup bar

I second this suggestion if the trailer can handle one of those doorway pullup bars.

I'd not bother with dumbells, personally--if you want to use weightlifting, I'd do that at the gym where you have a full range of weights. I don't have any experience with resistance bands. If you're after strength gains without much equipment, I'd recommend bodyweight resistance training.

Bands are cool for some exercises but know that they aren't cheap. You'll want 3-5 different "weights" for different things and good bands cost A LOT. Anywhere from $15-$40 each depending on the resistance. I've got some of the interchangeable systems where you buy the handles & bands seperate. I've found the bands in this setup as better quality and can be bought in much higher weights (over 100 "pounds" of resistance) for much less than pre-made ones. A 100 pound one in the modular setup is $25. Getting that pre-made is over $40. Plus you don't have to buy the handles every time. And some of them have handles that support up to three bands at once making for some monster resistance.

But they don't take a lot of space, and you can't mimic pullups with a dumbell. But for about any other exercise you can think of there's a way to do it with a band. With some of workouts I think I get an even better burn with the bands than I do dumbells because you are fighting for balance even more as the bands are trying to pull your form out/away and you can get even more burn out the edges of the motion.

Almost the entire P90x workout can be done with bands as can other similar workout programs.
