Resident evil: I'm confused

Dead or not, they're a lot safer with bullet holes in them than without.

Haven't you seen any zombie movies?

It was explained in the first resident evil movie. They're dead but they still need the central nervous system. So by blunt trauma to the brain or severing the Spinal column you can neutralize them.

That's pretty much the proper explanation.

As for them being "dead," remember they were re-animated by the T-Virus.

At its core it's just a zombie movie, the how & why the zombies happen doesn't matter. T-Virus, overflow of hell, whatever you need to make the story run is fine. As long as the end result is a zombie shuffle shooting gallery it's all in good fun.

Viper GTS explained pretty well. Both Resident Evil movies were good, but could have been much better (the games were, that's for sure)
