I played RE4 on a TV, and sat further back. It's possible that this has something to do with it. I've been playing third person games for a long, long time.
Why don't YOU go play Wolfenstein, Ryan? Because I doubt you've tried RE5 for PC if you're so quick to call my claims dubious. Always fun to hear from the demographic that thinks every complaint is the user's fault.
Nice try with your smilies, though. Thanks for the advice from those who helped. I'm just going to keep trying to get through it, I've seen all I need to out of this thread.

I'm not the one complaining about the camera in a game where the camera is fine and literally just like RE4.

Just read your OP again.

So, when the PC version got announced my brother in law and myself made an agreement that we would both buy it and play it co-op like old times.

Now its out, and I'm the only one of us that bought it. But the worst part is this, the camera makes me feel ill after about 15 minutes. The camera is just too close, moves too quickly, and when I press 'W' to move ahead and try to move the camera around, it jitters.

Please, someone tell me the camera system is moddable. If not, I am out 50 bucks when I should have been saving my money. Feeling pretty bad right about now.

It doesn't seem like you understand how to play RE5, or even RE4. In RE4, you couldn't even move the camera around. You could glance to the left and the right, but it always snapped back to the forward position. The same is true in RE5. This isn't Gears of War. It doesn't have a fully rotating, customizable camera. You can look around, but it always snaps back into the forward position. It's an improved version of the "tank controls" from the original RE games. It is by design, and has been that way since Capcom made the "big change" with RE4.

So, I stick by my regular assertion: it's the player, not the game. BTW, 60+ hours on RE5. SS rank on almost all Merc maps. All but 4 Achievements. The camera system is fine. I hate to say it, but QQ less.

Sorry if you don't like to hear that. I even used smileys to try and lighten the tone, but whatever. Or perhaps go back to CounterStrike...I don't know what else to tell you.

Well, I played much more RE4 than RE5 for obvious reasons, but I'm betting that having a controller and playing on a TV a few feet away was the difference. Let's pretend you're completely right, and I'm trying too hard to make it an "FPS experience". Then, in time the game will get easier for me to play and stomach if I just stick with it. That's all that was really needed to say.

It's not just me, obviously, though for the moment it sure looks that way. It sounds like if you sank 60+ hours into RE5 you did so in the Xbox 360 version. What about the PC version? When I played RE5 on the 360, I didn't have this problem. If you haven't tried the PC version (which is what I asked you and you didn't answer) then I suggest trying it for about 20 minutes on a 22" CRT if possible, because that's what I use.

Yes, you did use smileys to lighten the tone, but your thinly veiled aggressive word choices said otherwise. I can't go "back" to Counter-Strike, since I've never played it more than twice in my entire life. I have my answer now, at least. That much I'm thankful for.

Well, either...

1. The port from the 360 to the PC (an incredibly easy almost-one-button process) was totally botched and the camera system got completely borked.

2. It's just you.

Considering I'm reading the Amazon reviews right now for the PC version, I'd say it is just you. You sound like the guy who gave it one star. You had an expectation of the game that wasn't met, so you're complaining about game design decisions that are fine to those who understand them and enjoy them.

My initial post was mostly a general statement to all of the QQing going on in this thread, but the point where I specifically addressed you was because the control and camera system in this game is almost completely identical to RE4. I say almost because it is actually slightly better in RE5.

Also, how did you "guess" that? The PC version has been out for almost a week...enough time for a serious gamer to put 60+ hours into it. Also, the PC version is a GFWL title, so that means it includes achievements plus 360 controller support.

BTW, I did play it on the 360, but if the camera was "broken" in the PC port, which is the crux of your entire post, I think there would have been more news items and anger out there about such a game-stopping bug as a defective camera system. Thing is though...there isn't. It's just you.

RE5 probably just isn't your type of game. That is all well and good, but don't blame the developers for that, and don't whine when you complain that the game is messed up, and people who play and understand the game call you out on it.

The camera felt strange at first, having half the screen taken up by your character and such, but I got used to it pretty quickly and don't have any issues with it.

I'm playing with m/kb and have only a couple of issues with the camera. I have notice that I'll be looking straight ahead and if I more forward the camera starts panning upwards. I'll have to constantly scroll the mouse down to look straight ahead while moving forward. Also another annoying thing is the narrow FOV. Zombies could be right to your sides and you won't see them unless you turn. They're just small issues that can be overcome the more you play.

Overall it's a good game but only an okay resident evil game. There's still focus on resource management but it's not as critical as in RE2 and 3. Puzzles are almost nonexistent and are very easy. Halfway through the game started feeling like a Tomb Raider game. Oh and those cut scenes where you have press a button to react or press it as fast as you can gets overly annoying.

What's the difference between direct x 9 and 10 modes? In directX 10 none of the cutscenes work, it's just black. Direct X 9 doesn't seem to look quite as good and has really long loading times.

I'm still torn about this game. On the one hand the controls feel terrible for a PC game, but then I remember it's a resident evil game and judging by RE standards the controls are fantastic.

well with my current rig setup I can see a differance, with DX9 its detailed and such but in DX10 mode i see Hi-def imagery. dunno maybe its just me i guess and as much as i long the earlier console versions of the game i kind of like the keyboard/mouse style a bit more to my interest. and with the whole "cutscenes work, its just black" comment, I haven't experienced that when I'm playing it, if anything that is when DX10 stands out most during the cutscenes.

I played RE5 PC for about 2 hours, very hard to control the characters with kb/mouse. just couldn't get into it, besides way too bloody for my taste. the graphics pretty good but the controls on pc were not very responsive at all. going back to play lost planet : colonies for the third time, love that game. just couldn't get into this one.

RE5 is almost as much fun as RE4, but with proper kb/m support. If you loved RE4, you should definitely enjoy RE5. One caveat, the occasional quicktime event is much more difficult to pull off with the kb than it would with a controller. I still managed to do it but it took me a couple tries. The game is gorgeous. I did experience slight disorientation from the camera but it went away after a mere 5 minutes of playing.

I'm an old school RE fan. RE 1 and 2 is why I became such a big gamer today. Though the game changed too much over time. It's more of a action/suspense than a horror/puzzle than what it use to be. Quick time events? Nooooooo thank you. RE was good at being horror/puzzle and was in a league of its own. Now they think they can compete with all the other action games because they have a big franchised name. I was...15-16 at the time I played RE1 and now I'm 26....Your name is only going to be remembered for so long before the newer generation takes over.

If this is what the newer generation wants than I guess us old school puzzle/horror are SOL. Parasite Eve, Resident Evil 2, and Silent Hill (1 and 2)...man those were the days !
