Resident Evil 5 PC

So, when the PC version got announced my brother in law and myself made an agreement that we would both buy it and play it co-op like old times.

Now its out, and I'm the only one of us that bought it. But the worst part is this, the camera makes me feel ill after about 15 minutes. The camera is just too close, moves too quickly, and when I press 'W' to move ahead and try to move the camera around, it jitters.

Please, someone tell me the camera system is moddable. If not, I am out 50 bucks when I should have been saving my money. Feeling pretty bad right about now.

Yeah, I have the same impression- the camera is way too close and it made me a little dizzy at first. I got over it though- you will get used to it if you keep on playing. It is actually pretty fun now that I am over my dizziness 😀 Sorry, don't know about any camera mods. It is a brand new game for PC- someone might make a mod for the camera eventually. Are there any mods available for the game yet at all?

Yeah it is disorienting at first.

The movement and mouse look is kinda messed up as you mentioned, it is annoying but the game is good enough that I learned to ignore it, RE4's mouse controls were modded btw so I imagine some one will mod this one as well.

You'll get used to it, don't worry. I thought it was a little weird at first on PS3 but it'll feel natural after a while.

Did you every play RE4?

RE5 PC's camera, especially in mouselook mode, is extraordinarily sensitive.

It does calm down a bit in aiming mode or in running mode though, and really you spend most of your time doing one or the other. It absolutely takes some getting used to, but you will adjusts - and unlike the console versions, turning 90 degrees can be done very, very fast.

It's main problem is the overdone recticle sway. They were obviously trying to prevent the game from becoming a complete joke, but it is more annoying then anything else.

Camera is a bit wild, I can't get it to work with my SFIV Xbox pad, it might need a 2nd analog pad to play correctly but it's not even detecting it. I haven't gotten dizzy, the graphics are crazy, it runs great and is pretty damn fun so far. I don't like how you can't walk with your knife or a gun out. They did a pretty good job on the port, it doesn't feel very console like to me. Definitely a lot more action and shooting then I'm use to in previous RE games. Still the same that you have to watch your fire, running out of ammo isn't hard. I can't wait for Dead Rising 2 to hit the PC. Capcom makes good PC ports for sure.

If you have an xbox 360 controller that's probably the best thing to plug in and play with - you won't get sudden jerks of the camera when you go to run and turn at the same time with the mouse. However, if you actually want to be able to hit some headshots you're way better off with the mouse. It's a sucky give and take scenario. It's too bad that they didn't put a little more time into perfecting the mouse action.

dizzy? disorientating? you guys new to gaming or something?

I remember getting rabidly motion sick when playing Ken's Labyrinth, which I bought on floppy diskette. Awful game, but the point I am making here is that you don't need to be "new to gaming" to have one game out of many make you motion sick. Each person's tolerance is different.

Thanks for the suggestions, hopefully this just "goes away".

Haha, Ken's Labyrinth was horrible! I can't believe you bought the full game! The demo was more than enough for me 😀 Good old shareware days...

It was actually the first 'Episode' of the game, which was still more than I could stomach. 5 dollars in a cardboard box.

Is the camara more close than Dead Space?

It's about the same, but at least this time the guy is slightly smaller than the dead space guy. I never get sick from games but these 2 games have managed to give me a headache and slight nauseousness if I play for long enough.

There should be a way to change the FoV but I can't seem to find the .ini file for this game ...

I'm on scene 5-2 and so far the weird motion or camera angle is ok with me, yet i guess i miss the whole 3rd person perspective view of the older parts, oh well =)

The computer AI b!tch can bite me. We're fighting a bunch of zombies, both our guns are out of ammo so we're knifing our way to victory. I almost die twice, she revives me. AFTER we've killed them all she suddenly goes "here take this!" and tosses me some machine gun ammo she'd apparently been holding on to.

AWESOME! lol

Maybe this game starts off slow or something, but if I keep on having to spend more time finding ammo than killing stuff I'm going to loose interest pretty damn fast.

OP...have you ever played any RE game?? there all notorious for bad camera angles..it was once a survival horror game.typically those rely on bad camera angles.

seems like your more mad at your Brother in law then you are at the game being less than stellar.
the game deserves a solid one through..too bad on the pc you cant resell like consoles.

every new RE title seems to move futher from "survival horror" and closer towards "action/adventure" which is a real shame.

There are already countless action titles available, it would have made me a far happier gamers if RE impreved upon the aspect of the game that made it so well known.

It is really difficult to have that survival horror feeling when you are a walking tank 🙁

I repeat, I have played RE4 on the gamecube and wii, loved both iterations. I've played other RE games but none as much as 4. I'm not mad at my Brother-in-Law, it just added to my annoyance.

The camera is fine. The OP says they played RE4 and loved it, but that claim is dubious since this game is literally RE4 with a shiny new coat of paint and slightly improved controls.

It sounds like the folks complaining in this thread about the "awful" camera just can't handle 3rd person games.

Random Generic FPS Game #7435 -----> that way.

Perhaps the "awesome" new Wolfenstein would be more to your liking?

😛

The camera is not fine, and I'm not a liar either.

I played RE4 on a TV, and sat further back. It's possible that this has something to do with it. I've been playing third person games for a long, long time.
Why don't YOU go play Wolfenstein, Ryan? Because I doubt you've tried RE5 for PC if you're so quick to call my claims dubious. Always fun to hear from the demographic that thinks every complaint is the user's fault.
Nice try with your smilies, though. Thanks for the advice from those who helped. I'm just going to keep trying to get through it, I've seen all I need to out of this thread.
