Apparently Capcom had listed it as being released today along with the 360 and PS3 versions in the U.S, but I havent' seen any web retailers carrying it yet (bar preorders), so does anyone have hard evidence that RE5 is indeed out for the PC? Or is it just the pipe dreams of a PC gaming nerd?

why would you dream about RE5 when RE4 for the PC didn't even have mouse support?

Yeah it was Friday - the 13th, but guess the release date got shifted to June 2009 as can be seen here.

And yeah...the controls in RE4 (PC) sucked big time.

I have a 360 gamepad for windows, silly. No-Mouse-Support is not an issue for me. RE4 ran fine and peachy using that (and looked great after all the texture mods)

Yeah just noticed the moved release date. :( oh well at least I know I've got something to look forward to this summer.

there was a patch that added mouse support for the PC.

I think I found a key-mapping application or like for RE4 which made the controls on the PC version easier.

to be fair, RE4 and RE5 are both better played on a gamepad, being atypical shooters very different from FPS. the Xbox 360 gamepad I have works really well. I just prefer the PC version because I only own a Wii (family uses it mostly for Brawl) and don't have a 360. Plus I've spent so much dough boosting my e-Peen with this rig it's a shame to dole out for a console when the same games I want to play can be found on PC.

Back to topic tho, it's a shame RE5 isn't out for PC yet. online retailers always seem to lie their asses off about release dates for console to PC ports (RE4 was the same). Pre-orders have become worthless because it's just a gimmick to wring deposits out of customers.

The mouse patch was better but still not that great. Although... the fact that you couldn't aim well added to the experience :p.

Well I just dld a mapping util and played it on a controller and had a f'ng blast with it. played it through 3 times. Since I don't own a console, I'm psyched re5 is headed to PC. Though most complaints about the console version are crappy friendly AI so since they arent likely to spend time fixing that it's likely not going to be as much fun anyway.

I've finshed RE5 on the PC today and thought i'd share my experiance with you.

i'll start with the good bits :)

The graphics are pretty good considering its a console port, the characters in particualr are nicley detailed and textured, but the levels themselves are a little bland in comparison, not bad by any means, just not as detailed. The lighting has been well implemented and fits well with the game genre

The voice acting is well done and fits the characters nicley

Some of the boss battles are pretty enjoyable in a cinematic way.

As this is a console port it is also quite undemanding on modern PC hardware, im running 1920x1200 resolution everything maxed and the game flys along (quadcore and GTX 280)

Aside from the nice graphics though i have felt this game to be pretty dissapointing :( for a few reasons which i detail below

As a long time fan of the res evil series im sad to see the game constantly move from being a survival horror title to an all out action game, the feeling of unease that used to accompny a few hours of playing RE has gone and not even remotly survived in this new title, Its hard to feel any panic facing facing the enemy when your a walking tank.

By far my biggest gripe with this title is the controls, not being able to move and fire simultaniously is immensly frustrating ( come on capcom its no longer 1996 ). Other actions such as turning round require you to think ahead when engaging the enemy as its a slow process. Sadly the game has moved into the action genre but left the controls back in the slower paced genre of previous RE titles

The inventory system needs to be stremlined, or the game paused when active as its too cumbersome to use during combat (equip my shotgun dammit not a box of rifle ammo!!! )

The storyline itself is fine, and the game does have some replay value if your the type of person who enjoys playing through a game multiple times to find new costumes and weapon upgrades.

All said and done RE5 is not a bad title, but i would certainly wait untill it can be had for a better price.

And if you are thinking of playing a horror title this month i would recomend dead space, the gameplay is better, the story stonger and the graphics/sound are on a par with those offered by RE5

You can turn 180 degrees with a single button press.

I played through this title and found it to be a pretty nice change of pace from Far Cry, Crysis and Half Life Two. Great graphics, your side kick is pretty hot and the firepower you're presented with is fun to use/upgrade. I can honestly say this game was way more fun back on the Playstation 1, it's not at all spooky any more and it has a metal gear feel to it.

Get it when it's cheap, it still has some entertainment factors for anyone who likes high quality shooters, the varried assortments of high powered weapons makes it pretty fun.

This is what I absolutely adored about RE1, 0, etc--
"As a long time fan of the res evil series im sad to see the game constantly move from being a survival horror title to an all out action game, the feeling of unease that used to accompny a few hours of playing RE has gone and not even remotly survived in this new title, Its hard to feel any panic facing facing the enemy when your a walking tank."

I too, thoroughly miss that. These moments where a dog would burst through the window or a zombie would wake up after being dead the last few times you'd been through that room were the only thing new to me in gaming...only thing that could startle me. I felt the controls helped with this too. There was nothing quite like the first time in RE1 (on gamecube) when I had about 10 shots left in my pistol, 35% health, and a zombie woke up...ran out of ammo, he starts biting my neck, I throw him off and have to whip out the knife and try to get him that way. First few times that happened, it was so long and drawn out, talk about a RUSH! Loved every minute of it. I felt the game became progressively more boring as you acquire things like the shotgun, machine gun, whatever. Pistol is where the suspense and thrill was.

People have been clamoring for an RE2 remake for years now, hopefully Capcom tides us over from RE6 with a remake using the MT framework engine.

Running and gunning does seem like an arbitrary limitation, although it's very much in character. The stock RE characters are elite soldiers and would never run and gun, particularly with their experience they know accuracy and ammo conservation is critical.

But man, aiming is too cake on the PC version. I've gone through most of the game on veteran at 90%+ right now. On the consoles outside of a few of the corridor levels it was hard to shoot above 75%, particularly the spinning platform level.

true, but the button turns you exactly 180' which may be handy in a tunnel but anywhere else....

why only in a tunnel? In most combat scenes enemies appear from different angles, often from in front and behind. the 180 flip was instrumental throughout the game, and anything 90 degrees or less you, wait for it, turn

You can turn 180 degrees with a single button press.

You can also equip weapons with a single button press. Put the weapons into the top middle, left/right middle, and bottom middle inventory slots. Then you can use the d-pad on the controller to select them (not sure what the keyboard commands are).

Bump.

So do you HAVE to have a live account to save games? I dont want an account, and I will be playing with no internet connectivity, so can I still save the game and play?
