I just picked up Resident Evil 4 last week and WHAT THE HELL!?!?! This game is simply amazing. I honestly never knew the Gamecube could push graphics that look this good. Honestly, the only game I've ever played that has as good graphics as RE4 is maybe Half-Life 2. Wow, just wow... the game freaks me out. I mean, if you thought Doom 3 was scary this game is going to scare the crap out of you. Geez... there is nothing like blowing a zombies head off and waiting to see if a parasite will emerge from the neck. The level design is breathtaking... everly little detail is just unbelievable. There are certain parts in the game where you don't want to open the door coz you are afraid what is going to be behind it. Its coz of games like Resident Evil 4 that I own a gamecube and only a gamecube.
This game has got to be one of the best games I've ever played in my life.... and is the only game that can potentially give me nightmares !!

Wait, you said you just got it? If you're saying *that* you'd best have picked up a Gamecube with RE4, unless there's a multitude of gory actions out for GC that's not out for Xbox or PS2, and I've been just out of the loop.

Also, welcome to 6 months ago.

Heh.. I almost NEVER pick up games at full retail which is why I wait so long.
Also, FYI: There are many more games that are exclusive to the Gamecube that are equally as good as RE4.

Wow, I must check it out then. I didn't like RE0 at all and took it back to the store.

Yep, RE4 rocks, as do many other games for the GC.

I recommend Eternal Darkness. (oldie but a goodie) You can pick it up cheap.

That's exactly what I was going to say. The only game that literally scared me & made me jump...plus the story is & the execution of said story are excellent.

Yep. RE4 has gotten some RAVE reviews. Now take into consideration you are comparing a game that is being played on a 3-4yr old console. RE4=HL2 graphics? Image how the games will look on the next gen consoles. ;)

Too bad there's no PC port of RE4. Its a fantastic looking game and I could only imagine how it would look in higher res with AA and AF enabled...drool... I'm disappointed that Capcom doesnt port their games to PC while other companies like Konami typically ports their games.

I'm a little worried about the PS2 port. I've seen pics and it seems to look kinda close to the cube version but I'm sure it wont look as good at all.

I have to disagree RE4 has freaky parts but Doom III is much more scarier. It does rock though and is the only RE I go into since the first one. RE0 was just a remake with better graphics. I didn't like it either. What makes this one so good is the Zombies use weapons and can actually do stuff. But the main thing that sets it off is the new aim system and where the camera is stuck to your backside for better view. Oh and the weapon buying/upgrade are awesome aswell. If Capcom keep this up I will continue to buy these games. Just looked at some screens for the PS2 version thats coming out and the GC version looks a bit better.

Think it took me like 22 hours to complete and I got all the treasures but 1.

Doom 3 didn't even come close to scaring me. And I played in the dark with 5.1 surround. I ALMOST flinched once when a zombie came up behind me.... I was pissed off because iD was touting it as the game that will scare the daylights out of you!
Resident Evil on the other hand.. t.. well,I've lost count on how many times I got scared. Stepping on the dog traps when running away will really get you. I remember the first time I encountered those parasite zombies. I used the shotgun to blow off a zombie's head and it fell to the floor. I then went to break a couple of boxes and I turn around and then there is this freaking thing coming out of zombie's neck... lol... I almost threw my controller out of fright! Another part that freaks you out is when you are in Salazar's castle towards the end and it switches to the view of the alien chasing you... that really makes you wonder whats coming. The story is actually immersive and witty at times as well :)... "Ahh I see the President has equipped his daughter with ballistics!" :D

And the monster design is really really scary and messed up. Doom 3 had only a couple of enemies and honestly only a very few of them actually creep you out. The boss battles are pretty intense as well.
BTW, did you get all the bottlecaps? I just finished Salazar's castle and I only have 2 (Leon's and that lady in red... btw, who is she?)

It doesn't say much about the girl in red(forgot her name) shes just there to get some stuff. Anyway I guess different things scare us. Other than being creeped out while in the castle from the Zombies or whatever chanting different things I only jumped a couple times. I didn't fool with the bottle caps they really don't add to the game just stuff some ppl might like to collect. The most important things in the game are the treasures just don't forget to combined some of the treasures as it adds another 5,000-10,000 to the total value instead of selling by them selfs. I was cheap on buying the treasure maps. I would buy one draw a quick map on paper and mark the treasures then reload a saved game. Only took me 5 mins but I saved 10,000(I think was the cost of them) a pop.

I guess where Doom III is so dark its more freaky to me.

Not to take this thread off topic, but DOOM3... scary? I was bored to tears 2 hours into the game, and at some points I was even laughing at the cheesy lines - "soon you will be dead and your soul will be mine <insert cheesy laughter>" - yeah, great writing there.

RE4 was pretty scary, but if you want something truly frightening play System Shock 2, or Thief3.

Yeah.. I totally agree with you man. What pissed me off even more was how iD and every single gaming publication out there was hyping this game as the scariest game ever before its release, so I ran out and bought it on the first day of its release... and WAS I DISAPPOINTED (in fact, I still am)!!! :|

Although I haven't tried it, I've heard Fatal Frame was pretty scary too.

Well everyone is different on what scares them. I guess I shouldn't have said scary as it really isn't. It gives me the creeps and makes me paranoid more than anything. I consider being scared running for your life, hiding, almost heart attack, ect and I certainly didn't do this with Doom III.

Just finished the game BTW... what a ride. Heh... the boss battle was a bit disappointing IMO, he was wayyy to easy, killed him on the first time.. I mean, the boss was amazing. That thing scared the crap out of me.. (iD needs to take some notes from the people who made RE4!!!).. but it was a little too easy. There were way harder bosses. But anywayz, the game doesn't let you rest... as soon as you beat the last guy, you have to race on a jetski! Geez... the developers really went all out on this game. Then after that, you have minigames and an extra mission!! WTH?!?

The game had everything... an AWESOME STORY (they really need to bring this story to the big screen... EXACTLY AS IT IS.. its that good!!!), AMAZING graphics, and above all KICK@$$ gameplay. This game will go in my books as one of the greatest games ever created... I just hope future reincarnations of this series is as good as this one!
