Resident Evil 4 reviews start to come in.........

Gamespot Review. - A 9.6 from Gamespot? Definitely a very high score from them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

IGN Review. - Holy crap! A 9.8?? Maybe I should've kept my Gamecube a couple of months ago instead of selling it. Oh well. 🙂

Discuss.

9.8?! Jimminy Christmas! I had planned on putting this off on my list of wants for a while, but dang yo. It may be the next in my play cycle.

(ps: I dont like IGN, but thier overall score is usually just about in line with what I'd give a game... usually.)

I've very much been looking forward to this game, glad to see the review.

9.8 is pretty damn amazing. They've changed a lot in this one, it's fully 3d and the often criticized old controls are revamped I heard.

EDIT: And I still need to play Metroid Prime 2 and some other stuff, heh heh.

I got tired of the RE series rather quickly. I hated the controls, I hated the static camera, but I loved the mood. So if those two bads are much better, then thats a very very good thing.

Hmm.. I sold my Gamecube a few months ago too. Maybe it's time to pick one up off eBay or something to give this game a play. It was the one hesitation I had in selling my Gamecube in the first place (that and the new Zelda game, whenever that's coming out)

I have a GC but never played the RE series... with 9.8, I may have to check it out!

The second Zelda for GC game should be out fall of 2005 from what I've heard - if it is as good as Wind Waker - it will be worth the wait. I loved WW.

Nintendo has been horrible at producing good games for their systems for a long time. I don't know why they are so fixated on kids games. I love my cube and the graphics are amazing when the game is right.

From the review
Bringing both gameplay types together is a control scheme that for the most part remains disappointingly unchanged from previous Resident Evil games. Kennedy is manipulated minus true analog control. Push the analog stick and he walks. Hold the B button down and he runs. Same as it ever was. Also, in our play experience with the game it became abundantly clear that many of the battles would have benefited from a dodge or strafe function, which Capcom has chosen not to include. And yet, despite all of this, the process of controlling Leon is far improved thanks to a combination of a flexible new camera that shoots the action from behind the character's back and a new action button that enables context-sensitive functionality.

Because the view remains behind Leon at all times, that momentary sense of disorientation that accompanied entering a new room in former survival horror games is thankfully absent. Adding another intuitive control layer, when you tap the R button Leon will aim his weapon and you can target enemies with full analog sensitivity. To call the addition superb would be an understatement. It changes the entire gameplay dynamic as you can individually target specific body parts of enemies, which in turn plays into the strategy

i never finished RE: outbreak but so far its been awesome.

i loved RE:2 i think by far that was the best (also the easiest) RE ever made. Storyline was amazing.

9.8... hm. Yet another suspect IGN review score. That would place it above any game from last year, if I'm not mistaken.

How old are you? I'm guessing about 15.

So far so good,

Maybe the only thing keeping it from getting a 10/10 is there is no hot chick in the game. How could they have left that out!?

Hum... I might actually have to use my gamecube sometime soon. Usually it just chills next to my modded x-box and looks pretty 😉 They need a game like Halo or Golden Eye (like the good old days of N64).

The reviewer states at the end of the article that had RE4 been released in 2004 he would have had it be the Game of the Year. So not so suspect as far as the integrity of their rating scale.

They tried the Golden Eye thing. It was greatly dissapointing. Golden Eye is still the best 4 player game IMO
