Resetting the ECU?

My check engine light came on and I want to reset it but can't find the damn fuse in the fuse box after countless diagrams. Can I just unplug the battery and let it sit for 5 mins then plug it back in?

The light will just come back on, you need to fix the problem. But yes you can just disconnect the battery.
 
Yes, you can just disconnect the battery. If there is really a problem in the system, the light will just come back on, though.
 
why do you want to do that? Are you tryin to pass inspections? if youa re, you will simply fail because they can tell that things have been reset (all info will be lost).
 
I'm just trying to see if the problem is something minor like O2 sensor or something major. I'm not sure either if this year's model has the light come on when it needs an oil change or not, like our Accord.

Could you bring it to a pepboys or autozone or something and have them give you the error code for free?

Is it common for cars to have the 'check engine' light come on for needing an oil change? My parent's honda has a seperate 'maint req'd' light that comes on and you can reset.

OBDII systems (and possibly others?) will actually set a "codes recently cleared" flag that won't go away unless there are zero problems for the next 100+ miles, and you will automatically not pass until it clears.
 
I took it to Autozone and they found nothing wrong with it because I reset it. I'll have to drive it until it shows back up.
