So I read for a G35 To reset the ECU disconnect negative battery terminal and then push brakes 3 times then plug in and thats it.

Well I did it and radio presets are still there.

So the other way will be unplug the negative terminal and let it sit unplugged for 12 hours?

well I doubt that because people at the g35 forums say there stations and and settings go back to factory after they reset, so right now I just have the negative terminal unplugged for 12 hours and Ill see.

From every car I've seen, unplugging the battery always works. Don't know specifically for a G35 but don't see why that would be different.

Why are you resetting the computer? Check engine light, and you repaired it?

Just disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Let's call it 5 minutes.

The reason they say press the brake pedal is to use up any stored electricity by putting a draw on it. I'm not sure about the radio stations on your car....but on my 99 Tahoe, the radio stations stay set, regardless. The clock gets reset, obviously, but any presets remain, even if you take the battery out for awhile.

So disconnect the battery, and assume the computer got reset. It'll take running it through a drive cycle to know whether your problem's gone or not, though. Anywhere from 30-50 miles, usually.

this is true but if someone tells you resetting the ECU gains 2-3 more mpg wouldn't you try it?

That sounds like a bunch of BS.

My G35 was getting about 17-18MPG. Unless I purely drove on the highway, I never got much more on a regular basis.

How on earth can changing the radio presets improve your mileage?!?

It's got nothing to do with the radio.
The ecu is constantly making small adjustments to achieve what it believes to be the desired AFR . With enough adjustments it will become permanent in the long term fuel trim table. It can go either way, adding fuel or subtracting fuel.
Resetting the ecu will reset the long term fuel trim back to zero and because of that this will only work if you are getting worse than normal mpg.

I put a different radio in my brother's 08 Jeep. Had the original radio out for about a month. When I put the original radio back in, the stations were still there.

The clock was still correct too, but that's because it gets the time from the CANBUS controller, apparently.

the computer relearns the driving habits. If you want to drive like Old Man Moses in your G35 chances are teh d00d prior to you did not.

I'd just go to an autostore and ask for a reset. I have OBD tools though so I do this myself, especially after major mods.

In the end though the computer will relearn the new driver's habits or engine changes...it just takes a lot longer.
