I'm trying to decide whether to get the Reserator 1 Plus or just go with the zalman air-cooled products. Which product will give better cooling performance, and which one will produce the least noise?

Havent seen a fan on the RESORATOR so its definitelly more quiet: RESORATOR vs Zalman 7700 (or 9500)+Zalman vf700cu: 1:0

Anyone seen a good Wattercooling getting beat up by Air? RESORATOR vs Zalman 7700 (or 9500)+Zalman vf700cu: 2:0

Id go for the RESORATOR + a quiet fan near the graphic card to cool the rams (if I had the money that is: here it costs 375$)!

When I was researching for Watercooling solutions, I read up on the reserator and it performed about the same as good air cooled solutions.

Read some revies lately too: and actually i have to admit i was wrong previously: the RESERATOR performs worse than the 7700cu + vf700cu. Just try to type Reserator 1 plus test @ google and voila there are several god revies to have a look at.

In all the reviews I have read where the reserator1 and the Zalman 7700 are mentioned the reserator1 always beats the 7700 by approx 3c-7c!!

I would get the reserator1 Plus!!
If I wanted silnece as well as good basic water cooling!!

Exactly right. The Reserator isn't even touted as "good" water-cooling by Zalman, which says it all. If you're looking for near-silent fan replacement technology then the Res will work. However, in the process, don't think you're getting performance that'll match a component-based, fan-driven water-cooler. Passive heat dissipation for the masses simply isn't that good, yet.

http://www.virtual-hideout.net/reviews/Zalman_reserator_1plus/index.shtml
Conclusion:

With all that said - the Zalman system is designed to replace air-cooling systems with comparable cooling performance. Designed for ease of use for first-time water coolers the kit is not necessarily geared for high performance water cooling. Much to my amazement the Zalman Reserator 1 outperformed the stock heat sink on this very cool chip. Room temperature was kept as close to a steady 25°c as possible and the test environment had constant air movement. Obviously if you stuff the Reserator under your desk or in a stuffy corner you can expect different performance gradients.

Conclusion

Zalman's Reserator 1 Plus is a great example of a company which released a good product, listened to what people had to say and then made the necessary changes to it. Though Zalman did a solid job with the original Reserator it did have some minor issues all of which were resolved with the Plus. That is not to say that this product is flawless, but Zalman did everything they needed to do and were able to deliver a great water cooling system. Its silent operation and amazing looks simply make me grin every time I notice it sitting on my desk.

If you want to try your hand at watercooling but are scared away by a tough installation or you are looking for a designer computer component, or you just want a quieter computer, Zalman's Reserator 1 Plus is highly recommended. Its not for everyone but under the right circumstances it is a great investment.

****************************************************

In none of these "reviews" did it tout the reserator 1 Plus as a water cooling unit for the hardcore over clocker!!

The temps from the Reserator 1 Plus are inline with basic aircooling!!

Yet its dead silent for those of you who are silent freaks!

What this about is NOT so much a performance water cooling unit as its about SILENCE.....as in no fans very passive water cooling!!

We all know passive watercooling was never met to compete against a high end water cooling unti that somebody who ocer clocks would be using!

But in and of itself if you want silence and temps at or marginally below what your present aircooling is giving you then it would appear as if the Reserator 1 PPlus would be a match made in heaven!!

I went from an XP120 to the Reserator 1 Plus.
CPU
34C idle to 28C.
48C load to 46C.
GPU
43C idle to 37C
65C load to 58C
That's at about 25C room temp.
Don't buy it to drop your temps, buy it because your case cooling sucks(my reason) or you want a very quiet cooling alternative.
It's a breeze to install. High quality.
Just thought you might want to hear from someone who actually owns and uses it, not some review or someone's take on that review.

Most passive watercoolers are designed for low noise, not for super high heat dissipation

If you want a passive watercooler that can match the performance of actively-fanned radiator-based watercoolers then get an Aquabox, that is if you can find it . . .

aww, I wish I knew before I went with with 7700Cu + Vf700Cu
Reserator 1 plus is around $250 - I spent at least $150 for those coolers + quiet case fans. $100 more and I would be in quiet PC nirvana
