resellerratings.com will be recreated.

it's was just too useful a resource for it to die like this - <futile>please don't lock this mods</futile>

i've put up a top level summary of the information i have acquired so far is here.

in a week or so, all the old information / functionality will be there along with some new stuff.

any comments appreciated.

(i am nothing to do with the old site - just an online shopper who needs help finding the good and bad places)

From the man himself...

<< "Is there anyone making a ResellerRating replacement?" >>

It's already done, just waiting to be launched

Take care,
Anand

Check Off topic, theres already a post about this.. 🙂

Good job by the way 🙂

thanks for the positive feedback and suggestions.

i am a little concerned about using the old resellerratings values - i assume that data belongs to someone, even if the site is gone.

on the other hand (sort of), a web site like this needs a pool of existing data kick it off and keep it going.

i'm going to go find a host who'll give me cgi + sql for a reasonable cost per month and put something together.

what about a wish list ? here is a first stab at it ...

- buyers can rate a seller (doh!)
*should you have to register ? might discuade people from doing it
*how do we stop people/vendors posting false good /bad info - we probably can't
* are then any legal implications for the host/owner of the site ?

- sellers can respond
*respond generally (you know... "sorry everyone, january sucked for us and we messed up.." or respond to individual comments like ebay.

- score is calculated based on valid stats principal - maybe it was at rr but i'm thinking of something like the movie scoring at imdb.com where the scores are weighted according to the amount of data.

- maybe some kind of weighting based on type of sale
*xxxxxx is great for books and electronics but really sucks for flowers ;-)

comments ?

you're not going to go far since anand is starting his own RR-like ratings...given choice between his, which is ready to go live AFAIK, and yours, which isnt, I would choose anand's.

fair point - i didn't know that - oh well, i don't really care so long as there is someone who is providing the information.

Is it confirmed that Anand is really going to offer a service like this? I've heard rumors, but nothing official...yet.

For those that really need to check reseller ratings go Here It's an online archive of them from last sept. Not current, but enough to get you by until an alternate site is developed.

somone pointed out that this data does belong to someone and i might not be allowed to publish it on my friends' site.

until i'm sure i'm not going to get him into trouble, i've taken it down.

if anandtech are going to do something themselves, there is not much point anyway.

Actually there is a point - why give your reviews to one single company? A number of sites dedicated to the same thing would not be bad. It would be great if they shared a backend of data. Something I think Anand would not think of doing. Just because a couple people here see no point I doesn't mean you should abadon your project. Also who really owns those entries? Did it say "RR.com owns any data submitted to it" on the entry forms? I submitted information to RR.com. If they die, that data should live on, not die with them or go by default to the next company they start up. It's our data too.

some good thoughts there - thanks.

i haven't abandoned the idea - i'm just being careful.

i got the data from archive.org and google - dunno what that means legally as far as RR (or their owners) are concerned

i'm too busy tonight to think about it but i might put something up over the weekend.

thanks.

yes he posted and confirmed it-READ ABOVE-that he is doing it.

THE BOSS posted in the sticky RR thread in off topic, I would say that settles the issue 🙂

As for bizrate, its not as easy to use, only has 321 computer companies, and strangest of all, has nothing rated under 5.9 (see page 10 of the computer companies).
