This.

This is why I've tried to stop offering "advice" to others about eating healthily. Either you get it or you don't. Either you care or you don't. People who eat at McD's know but don't care.

In the end we all will end up paying for this behavior in higher health costs to care for these people.

I am totally convinced you know nothing about mechanical separation. In fact, you just attach to a headline and run away with it. And after 3-4 pages deep, you reply without reading a damn thing.

I would love to lead the ignorant life you do, not challenging yourself the slightest.

Umm how exactly are you cooking chicken bone to make it edible? Last I checked you can get splinters in your throat from eating it (I was even taught as a kid not to given chicken bones to my dog).

Use the bones to make stock. Then discard the hard parts that have things boiled out of them. Same with pork bones and the like.

Good pho bases are made of that stuff!

With heat.

So after you make your stock you break up the bones and leave it in there for dinner? Tantalizing. In my household, we strain out the bones. Because y'know, nobody wants to eat the fucking bones.

Discarding the hard parts =/= eating the bone

Pro tip: Every part of the chicken is inedible before cooking.

This is not true.

Just ate some McNuggets - doesn't taste or look like substitutes. It says it's made from white meat on the box. No ingredients list on the box.

Read what their website says - the section on the McNuggets:
http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en/food...re_made_of/your_questions_answered/meats.html
Chicken McNuggets are made with white meat, lightly coated in a tempura batter to ensure that they are crispy on the outside, and juicy and tender in the inside. They are cooked in a Canola oil blend, which provides 0 grams of trans fat per serving.

The only meat used in McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets is chicken breast meat. The white meat is minced before being shaped into nuggets, and then coated with a specially seasoned batter at our trusted suppliers, such as Keystone Foods.

I'll take their word.

that's a great way to admit you've lost the argument. nobody eats the fucking bones, and you don't either.

do you even make stock bro?

Actually, this is a very common practice in Jamaica and such islands, where they eat the bones that have been softened by boiling or frying.

I noticed this at first when one of my friends in college was sitting with me in the cafeteria and we were having fried chicken that night. He always went for the wings and legs and would eat *literally* the whole thing. Curious site to witness, that's for sure.

This is stupid, you're stupid. Lots of people eat the bones and gristle. Stop forcing your pedestrian eating habits on the rest of the world.

So who eats chicken bones besides Jamaica/small Caribbean islands?

:colbert:

From where I sit, you've failed to meet the standard for "lots of people". I will concede that I was wrong, however. I guess "some people" do in fact eat chicken bones.

I have no problem eating at McDonald's. I don't order from their dollar menu. That's where they cut corners. Their regular items are still cheap and the quality is far superior to what you find at Burger King and Wendy's. There's a reason why McDonald's and Chick-fil-a are killing their fast food competition. They have the best overall service and the best food out of the group.

I guess it depends on where you live. Every single McDonalds in my area is consistently inconsistent and almost always horrible. Chick-Fil-A is amazingly consistent and their service / accuracy is beyond comparison with other fast food places around here.

The actual wording is "100% white meat" -- meaning "the meat that is in the nuggets is white meat."

Shut up. Now you're just making a leap. You said "no one" eats bones so the burden of proof has been on you from the start. You're like that guy who never knew that narwhals existed till a week ago.

When I was a kid my mother would always eat her bones until she read a Bible verse saying something about not drinking blood (marrow is blood).

There isn't anything very dangerous about eating pink slime if it's mostly connective tissue, but it isn't very nutritive, either. Basically if you've eaten gelatin or anything with gelatin in it, it's the same thing. At most you are getting calcium and some trace minerals as well as fat, but not a lot of protein or carbohydrates.

When I was a kid my mother would always eat her bones until she read a Bible verse saying something about not drinking blood (marrow is blood).

Marrow can contain blood, but it's not the same as drinking blood. The biblical command against it is because of what blood represents (life) and also the associated kind of cultic practices of drinking blood. Historical context matters: many of the other religions practicing in and around Israel in Old and New Testament times partook in blood consumption as a part of idolatrous rituals.

It's generally not a good idea to drink blood, anyway, but it's unavoidable ingesting some in the practice of slaughtering and eating animals. It's probably safer to prepare and consume animal blood now than it was in the past, but I have no idea how healthy it is to consume regularly.
