Is it possible to resample MP3's to a higher bitrate? If so what is a good app to do this with? Im kind of in the dark when it comes to this.

What I want to do is take my 128kbps MP3's and resample them to 256kbps so they sound better.

Is this even possible? It wouldnt seem like it but I was just wondering. Sure would be nice if it was.

Thanks.

I think you need a little lesson in exactly what an MP3 is first.

That's like taking your VHS tapes and trying to make them look like DVD-quality.

When you encode an mp3 you strip away "useless" sounds in the music. The lower the bit-rate, the more "useless" sounds are stripped away. There is no way to replace the sound that has been stripped off of the mp3.

From movies and TV I know that computers can turn 3 pixels into a person's face, so just chant "enhance enhance sharpen enhance" and wait for the magic!

Download two versions and combine the rates. I'm pretty sure that's what he wanted to hear. :laugh:

Why don't you show some compassion? He did ask if it was even possible. :thumbsdown:

Hey dont flame me for just asking. I didn't think it was possible anyway but it seems like there would be some way to "fatten" the sound up.

It sure didnt take long for a bunch of heads to jump on this one.

You can resample them to higher bitrates (Transcode) but they won't sound any better, would take up more space, and actually would probably sound worse from the transcoding process. Basically Garbage in = Garbage Out.

THIS IS POSSIBLE, BECAUSE...

Only by "making up" what goes in between the real pixels.

AE => AÆE

..When you have a clear mathematical pattern, you can deduce what "goes between" pretty well. Using regression techniques, you can derive the equation of the waveform that the sampled info is describing, and then replot the points in between.

This would work similar to how the curve tool works in paint/draw programs, where it takes 3 or more points and gets a curve. With this, you'd want to sample a good several points per "segment" and use that to plot points in between which fit the curve very well ... or derive a curve that fits very well for a given segment and then plot new points along that.

Too bad I don't know much about coding audio software specifically, because I could do the math for it >:/ ... You'd think this would exist already.
