Am I missing something?

Yah, I don't know how to attack towns when I want to. So what I do is sit outside the town and destroy or capture every ship that sets sail from there. After a few they generally hate me enough so that they open fire when I approach, and then it gives you the option to attack.

Hopefully we will get an option later with a patch. . .

you can shoot at towns w/forts by using the space bar, that ticks them off so you can attack. I guess there are some quest bugs tho. people kept telling me that Reynoso was enroute to a certain town w/info about my sister. I hung out around that town for ages but he never showed up. I wandered to nearby towns and they kept updating me about Reynoso, saying that he departed 424 days ago for the town in question. kinda lame b/c I can't continue the family quest without him.

I played for a few hours last night. I liked it, although I didn't see an easy way to attack a town without a fort either.

I managed to get surgeon on my first play through. There are a few things that I don't like about the game, but maybe it is just me. Mainly, it doesn't seem like there is much time between you start sailing until your crew is tired and wants to go home. It is a constant battle trying to get to different locations in a timely fashion.

I only managed to rescue 2 relatives my first play through. I didn't find the hideout and didn't uncover any cities. I managed to rank first among the pirates (easy goal to achieve) but didn't find all their treasures (very time consuming).

The worst part is how you have to continually kill the same guy to get pieces about each relative. You have to kill that guy roughly 16 times and hes always running away.

I noticed the time thing too - I just disband my crew every couple of years. . .

I havent played alot yet but it looks like an interesting game. Kinda weird theres not much talk about it seeing how its been out since the 22nd. I saw it at the mall the other day and i couldnt believe it was actually out 🙂

I've mastered the art of sacking towns.

For towns without forts:
You need a "sufficient" sized party first (80+ seems to work most of the time), and then you set anchor near whatever town you wish to attack. Simply march into the town and you'll be given the option to attack or sneak in.

bumpage.

got a question for anyone who has this game -- is there joystick/controller support, or are you required to use the keyboard?
