Great movie. Should be shown to all incoming High School freshmen when they start school. They actually might think twice before doing drugs.

but after seeing the double penetration scene, wouldn't it encourage it?

edit: and grave of the fireflies did not make me shed a tear at all...And how did the b-29s drop the burning sticks? Or were they firebombs?

I thought it was all right, but I really don't see how people find it so depressing. I mean really, these are three drug bags - would you expect anything less than their self-destruction?

umm, that's what I don't get. I don't think the characters are much different from you or I. The big point was they had dreams they were chasing.. thus the title. The whole icarus thing seems pretty damn depressing to me.

Something else I want to mention: If you have the DVD, watch the deleted/extended scene with the prison guard. It made me want to cry. (Well, watch ALL the deleted/extended scenes, but this one in particular.)

what was the deleted prison scene about?

Same here, outside my friends. Heh, my one friend who watched it with me was like "the only only way this movie is going to turn out depressing is if they don't all die." 😀

It is the means they chose for their end. They knew drugs were bad, and would cause them trouble (at least that one guy did (as shown by the scene with his grandmother), and I'm sure he would have let the others in too on such top-secret information), yet they still chose to use drugs to gain money/fame/whatever. I really don't know how I am supposed to feel sorry for them when then they themselves chose their lifestyle, knowing what could, and inevitably would, happen.

They played with fire and got burnt. Why should I feel for them?

The mother didn't know that drugs were bad, she trusted the doctor.

Very disgusting movie, IMO. Well done? I guess, but it was still disgusting. I don't know how anyone can think that someone who's desperate enough to prostitute herself in front of a bunch of drunken perverts in exchange for heroin is actually sexy or arousing. You people getting off on that scene have problems.

Yes, true, the mother was the only person whose destruction I would consider depressing.

The only problem, for me anyways, is that it was so ridiculous that I just couldn't take it seriously after a while. I?m not sure why, but her whole storyline just struck me as goofy or something? I mean it was a great idea, having the mother?s life being destroyed like that ? really great fodder for a story, and a perfect compliment to the other characters. The only problem was that for me I just couldn?t take it seriously. Maybe it was its presentation, I dunno. Just something about it?
