Requesting help finding a Q9550

Hello,

While I'm sure plenty of you would recommend another processor, I'm still going to ask for help finding a Q9550. If you happen to find a place that actually has them in stock -not backordered or preorder please let me know. I heard a rumor that one major company may be getting them on the 22nd. I'd like to build a system as soon as possible and want the Q9550 even though there are some other units people would recommend.

I can get the Xeon version but there may be differences between them that I don't want to deal with since I already have the motherboard and memory.

Feel free to PM me if you find one - thanks in advance for your help!

Good luck ;)

Haven't seen any at all in the disty channel yet - and if there are any shipping, they are so few and far between that you'd have to be very lucky to catch one. We barely get Q9450's as it is.

okey i am going to tell you my theory behind this.

I was once in the same market as you was. However i did some digging and waited on the prices of the Q9450.

I came to this conclusion.

1. If the Q9550 can be found its going to be expensive. Im talking about 500-600 dollar ranges.

for that price if you can afford to drop 100-200 more, you can pick yourself up a QX9650 on fleabay.

2. The QX9650 has no multi limitations. And so far none that ive seen have a fsb wall @ 460. Mine went up to as high as 510. [this could be because i have an uber board tho]

3. The QX9650 is a better buy/value then the QX9770 because you'll find one for half the price usually.

If you really in the market for a Q9550 and your going to bite the price on it, expand your budget a little and find a QX9650.

Or just go with the xeon X3360, it really is the same chip and will perform identically to the Q9550

Q9550? Douubtful you will find one for 1-2 months. Tons backordered, none on PO.

ETA from intel is ROUGHLY middle of June.

Unless you are planning to wait - give it up.

A little birdie told me TankGuys will have some Q9450's for sale early next week, if they haven't sold them all yet. :D

Another big negatory - none coming in the near future. About as easy to find as the Q9550.

LOL guitar you forgot to add at the end, "For you my Young Padawan" :p

Also i can vouch for the first link. LAGOOM seems to be doing some justice to people on XS.

I considered the Xeon but got mixed responses.

Neither Intel nor Gigabyte recommend using this CPU with the GA-X48T-DQ6.

I asked on this forum - some said it won't go into sleep mode, others said something about sse4 or something like that not being on board.

pm graysky about the sleep mode thing. He's been researching this very thing. I read a rumor the other day that you can't enter s3 sleep mode with the xeon equivalents for the 45nm quads. Admittedly, I have never tried to enter s3 sleep mode with a cpu so I have no clue HOW to do it, but I'd be happy to try it on sunday if somebody will send me info on how to set it up on my ip35 pro.

Interesting. I am a slaes manager for the #1 Intel disty in the US, and we have gotten no shipments. Add to the hilarity that those companies you linked buy most of their Intel from us. Do you believe all palces when they say "In stock"?

Or are some etailers more honest? Don't you think that if ANYONE could get them it would be the behemoth Neewegg? Maybe Mwave? ZipZoomFly - ANYONE reputable?

I'm the guy that gets Tankguys all the CPUs before anyone else in the US, I guess my contacts are wrong. (Try to buy a Q9450 from anyone besides Tankguys after Monday)

**EDIT**
Lagoom - I don't know
Techonweb does have 7pcs.
Compsource is out
NCIX is a good comapny - they have 1pc (And are in Canada)

my epeen is bigger than either one of yours. I am the double super secret founder of FIRST CHICKEN, which, as everybody knows, eventually morphed into NEWEGG. The cool part of my story is that when somebody asks, I tell them that the chicken did actually come before the egg.

Sadly, I was forced out of Newegg when I told the receptionist "Paul Otellini can go f*** himself for all I care" while he was still on the line with her and could hear every word I said. I thought he was intel's night manager or something.

boe, it looks like you're SOL buddy. The good news is that on apr 20 you'll be able to save $2 on that cpu that you can't buy anywhere ;)

I was baffled by that when they released the price drops - $2.00 on a buncha procs that no one has. DOh!

Yeah - that price drop thing is a cruel joke

I do occassionally send them e-mails just for the twisted satisfaction of bitching about the processors "released" in January that haven't shipped yet.

http://www.intel.com/training/...actus+contactus_online

intelpresales@intel.com

They insist the Q9550 was released in January. They also insist "however supply has not kept up with demand in this case" - Yes I imagine when you don't supply ANY production CPUs it is hard to keep up with demand.

On notes put down your from Xtremesystems.org on the LAGOOM order. They wont mess with you.

As i said, LAGOOM has been treating people @ XS who shop there with very good feedback.

Stop touching the core at night! The only grease they're supposed to have is AS5 grease. ;)

Even newegg has had them

Thanks - but until someone can confirm that x3360 works with the GA-X48T-DQ6 and sse4 functions and sleep mode functions on the x3360, I'm going to try and find the Q9550. If someone can confirm the xeon chips works with my motherboard that would be great too as it seems easy enough to find the xeon CPUs.

ok boe, I've done a LOT of research about this issue. I was likewise concerned about getting an X3350 instead of Q9450. I talked to graysky last night and he verified that the sleep function does work with the xeon chip. That was the ONLY DISCERNABLE DIFFERENCE that I have heard, seen, or read about with these chips. I'm not saying that intel doesn't have some ultra-secret sneaky hidden feature tucked away somewhere, but I AM saying that any weird feature like that didn't prevent the cpu from working with my ip35 pro. I also have a Q9450 right now that booted right up in an ip35-e. Now, while it is theoretically possible that an X48 board that was MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR 45 NM doesn't work with a 3360 but does work with a 9550, I believe that the likelihood of said event is as close to zero as anything you're likely to find in this life. If you want the 8.5 x multiplier that badly then just go buy the freakin' chip already!
