Could the mods maybe decide that Dave's "Official" threads be kept in P&N?

I know he means well, but how about encouraging him to keep his massive threads where he owns all topics in one place?

It is Politics & News

For what it's worth, the description of Politics and News is:
A forum for more serious discussions of politics and current events. Passions are always high on all sides of these subjects so keep your posts on topic.

Quite frankly, I have no problem with "news" articles in OT if they don't meet those two criteria: serious discussions and multiple sides.

i.e. "<insert celebrity here> was arrested for DWI" does not typically elicit much of a stimulating discussion where passions are high.

If there was a literal interpretation of the word "news" and anything qualifying under that interpretation belonged in P&N, then subjects such as "Hey! I'm a new Dad! My wife just had an 8 pound baby boy" would belong in P&N, not OT.

If you use the general definition of the term "news", you'll note that many threads in OT could technically be called news. For starters, the long stickied thread chronicling a bike journey from Alaska to Panama. That's nothing BUT news of each day's adventure. Where's it belong? In my opinion, right where it is, OT. If a topic seems innocent enough, but quickly degenerates into an argument with 2 sides, off to P&N it goes. And a few topics have taken that course. "I visited Cuba, it was an awesome trip" degenerated quite rapidly and was sent to P&N. (The OP of that thread did a poor job of opening people's eyes to the fact that it's not as bad there as most Americans think. Heck, you can freely go anywhere you want; they don't shuffle you around to specific locations to only show you the best parts of Cuba, but the OP missed making that point, and I digress. It turned into a political thread and was dealt with that way.)

I hear you Dr. Pizza & I think you're doing a great job.

I do see a difference between a thread about popular culture news (ie Paris Hilton's last porn video with her freshly shaven chihuahuas) or the bicycle journey chronicle and a thread purporting to owning all weather for the planet with updates supporting a rather odd point of view.

My concern is that Dave will begin to occupy OT with these massive (in length and content) flamebait threads rather than post them & P&N, where he has typically posted them.

Buried in the description of the "Hurricanes 2007" is "AT OTers say it was nothing", he's posting flamebait getting away with it & enjoying the attention.

Dave is a grown up and I feel he should be given a bit less leeway than the teens & tweens are given. His paranoia is legendary and he cherry picks to prove his oddball points. All I'm asking is for Dave's threads in OT to be viewed more narrowly and if they contain "news" to move them to P&N.

Using search I can only find one thread of his in OT that meets that criteria posted in the last 3 months. Obviously it's not a problem and if it does become a problem it will be addressed accordingly.

Common Courtesy moved the other to P&N (Hurricane Thread)

Appreciate the consideration folks.

Lock er up 😀
