Request for help on setting up network

Hello all. I'm getting ready to set up a home network but I really don't know what I'm doing.
I have a cable connection to the net

Here is what I have on hand.

Netgear RP614 router
D-link DI-704 router ( missing power adapter)
netgear 5 port Fast Ethernet Switch model FS105

Computers
xp2700 running win98
XP2400 running winME
XP2100 running winXP home
P4 2.4b running XP Pro ( down waiting on new PS)
xp2700 waiting on parts. no OS yet. Thinking about SuSE linux
AMD1.4 running winME

These two are missing hard drives, case and PS's
AMD 1.33
XP1800

Cable modem -> Netgear router (or D-link if you can find another power adapter).
Netgear switch -> last port of Netgear router using crossover cable.
Connect computers to available ports on router, then connect the rest to the switch.

Hope this helps.

First the cabling/physical connections....

Your cable modem will connect in to the WAN port on your router. Then connect each computer's network card to an open port on the front of the router. If you need more than 4 ports (computers) hooked up then you will have to use the uplink on your switch to connect in to one of the router's open ports and connect the remaining computers to your switch. Check your switch manual if needed to verify how the uplink cable should be connected to the router. (and what cable type......like crossover or straight through) Thats really all there is to the physical connections.

Software configuration......

You will need to get to the setup page on your router. This is generally done through your web browser for home routers with an address of 192.168.0.1 (check your manual) You will need to know several things from your cable company to finish setting up the router, like your IP address they have issued you, their Gateway address, DNS addresses, etc. Look in the router configuration page for these settings and input them.. Usually you must reboot the router for the new settings to take effect. Be sure DHCP is enabled also. Also unplug your cable modem for about 10 seconds and let it reset to the new mac address presented by your router before you try to acess the internet.

For each computer you will need dhcp enabled and TCP/IP protocol enabled. You will need to enable file sharing if you plan on sharing files between the computers. You may be able to use the internet connection wizard on each computer to get them to see the connection.

Hope this helps some.....if your still confused be more specific on what info you need to get things working.
