Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question but here it goes:

I'm thinking of building a new gaming system. My objective is that the system
will be 2x faster than my current system (2.2ghz t-b amd with 9800pro with
approx 10% overclock).

I'm not a big overclocker so the system will likely be overclocked 5% to 10% if
at all. My hope was to stay around $1100. So the primary questions are will
this system be 2x faster and do you have suggestions for part swap that would
give the best bang for the buck (while retaining stability). Also - would I get
nearly the same perf replacing my 9800pro with a 7900gt agp - and would that be
better route to go?

Anyways system:
cpu:
amd x2 3800 ~$280
Disk
WD 250GB 16MB sataii ~$96
memory
G.Skill 2GB DDR 400 ~ $140
PSU
550 antec TruePower ~$98
Case
Cooler Master PAC-to1 or Kingwin 424 $45-$100
Video
7900GT ~$300
DVD-rom ~$25
MB
DFI nF4 Ultra-D ~$98
Sound
either built in or create labs 2zs from current system (built in on dfi might
be as good)
kb/mouse already have
---
I think that's everythign for around $1120 (depending on day order and case)

Any comments on if this system will be 2x faster for games or suggestions to improve the build @ a similar (or less) cost ?

Looks like a good build to me. Give the on-board sound a try, it's fine for me. Is that DVD a burner?

With that budget, you won't get a 2X faster system. However, you will see a vast difference in your games and other apps if you go with what you have listed there.

Instead of the 3800+, I look into the S939 Opterons which OC like mad for the most part. If overclocking is not your thing, then the 3800+ will be fine.

Let me know where you plan on getting the DFI Ultra-D for $98, my ECS mobo just failed on me so I'm in the market for a new mobo and looking to go DFI.

X1800XT 256 or 512mb $280~$330 better thean the 7900gt

Just get fortron or NeoHE for your price range. You really don't need that many watts at all.
