Today I?m getting frustrated with hardware.

I just received a new EPOX 8HKA+ and an Anthlon 1800+.

I?m down to these items in the machine:
350 W Enermax power supply
Visiontek GTS-V (I?ve also tried this with an old Matrox card)
Crucial 256 mb PC2100 RAM (I have two sticks, have swapped to the other)
Floppy
nothing else connected to the machine except the fans

FSB set to 100 (If I set to 133, machine won't POST)
10/5 BIOS installed

Motherboard reset CMOS
Select fail-safe defaults setting from CMOS, select floppy as boot
save & exit

MB identifies the processor as an Anthlon MP 1150 100x11.5, FSB 200

Load DOS 6.22, or 7.00
Get to an ?A? prompt
Machine then locks about 30 seconds later.

If I stay in CMOS settings ? machine doesn?t lockup.

Ambient case temp at 25 C (77 degrees Fahrenheit for us impaired folks)
CPU on first try at 47 C
CPU then heats up to 50 C

Ideas?
RMA the RAM, motherboard or processor?

Could be a number of things. A friend of mine had a problem VERY similar to this recently, and it turned out to be a bad stick of RAM. That doesn't necessarily mean that's what's causing your troubles though. I'd say that you should just start swapping parts out, if you have an extra stick of RAM that you know works, try that. If you still have problems, then try a different power supply. If that doesn't help any, you could try another CPU, but I doubt you have an extra Athlon XP 1800+ floating around :)

So yeah...first step, try different RAM. Keep us updated on how different things are working out.

Couple of things to try... First, get the latest bios here. The latest bios fixes some issues with recognizing the XP's as MP's. If that doesn't help, try another CMOS clear and try the RAM in another slot. :)
