Yes I can build my own video editing computer, but this isn't for me. It's for a state school. They have approved the cost of an Alienware machine with 19" LCD running about $3900. Here are the specs:

Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor w/ HT Technology 3.0GHz
ATI FireGL? T2 128mb 8x AGP
1GB Dual Channel DDR PC-3200 SDRAM at 400MHz - 2 x 512MB
240GB (120GB x 2) Seagate Barracuda® 7,200 RPM
Lite-On 16x DVD / 52x32x52x CD-RW Drive
Plextor PX-712A 12x DVD±R/W Drive
Matrox RT.X10 Xtra Suite Digital Video Editing System
Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy 2 ZS High Definition 7.1 Surround
NEC 19" LCD 1960NXi-BK MultiSync ? Black
Logitech® Z-640 5.1 70-Watt Speakers
Zalman ZM-RS6F Surround Headphones

I'd like to decrease that cost. Unfortunately, I can't just build a machine due to state guidelines. Anyway, anyone know where to get a good prebuilt PC for a cheaper cost? No Macs. Thanks!

Nothing in there is special for a video editing machine. I build my own so I don't know most of the online custom building sites out there, but just go with one of them. Unless it is the top top Alienware systems, they're overpriced and available anywhere else for $1000 less, so I don't blame you for trying to find an alternative.

Do you really need those speakers and that sound card for video editing?

Also, you don't need a FireGL card. Seriously.

[Edit] Lastly, you also don't need flashy headphones.

I could build one for you, to your specifications, although I might recomend wating for nForce4.
