Seven more R's the past 2 weeks are are not going to run for re-election.

Will Hurd is leaving, and he was the only African American Republican Congressman in the House.
He was well regarded by both sides but it seems that he won't/cannot continue under this current administration.
He was one of the few R's that would speak against the wall/trump.
This will leave, after the 2020 election, one Republican African American in Congress, Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina
How is that for being inclusive of the general population?

From the article:
"There are more people named "Jim" in the House, than there are Republican women running for re-election."
Congresswomen Susan Brooks, who was the head of recruitment for GOP is leaving.
2 of the 13 repub women in congress are leaving
How's that for diversity?

In general though, it seems that these republicans are tired of fighting trump
and kowtowing to his wishes. Disagree with him and he'll try to end your political career.

Well.... Rep Hurd was just on the Sunday talk shows a week ago defending Donald Trump.
Hurd was heard saying that Trump is not a racist and then pretty much skipping over direct questions about those Trump tweets against Rep Cummings.
Like I said in another post, Rep Hurd most likely made those comments of Trump support and racist denial then proceeded straight into the nearest bathroom to vomit.

Hey, that's not a bad idea.
Handing out those air-sick bags to the Trumpies at Trump rallies.
We know they could put them to good use.

just a small correction, Hurd was the only Republican African American Congressman, there are democrat African American Congresspeople.

This is an ongoing macabre filtering process that continues on. If Trump somehow survives his term, anybody that's left in his cabinet and his legislature are shameless sycophants whose only purpose is to accede to, unquestioningly support and approve of Trump's reckless compromised use of his powers, something of which will only take a few more Repub legislator holdouts that still believe they can uphold the conservative principles they are proponents of while appeasing Trump's addiction for constant approval and obedience to his will.

edit - Imagine a Trump owned and operated gov't full of Barrs, Nunezs, Cruzs, Grahams and Kavanaughs, with McConnell orchestrating their efforts to acquire minority status rule over the nation then realize it's pretty much that way now.

Saw a chart for the Gop house:

175 white men
13 women
6 Latino

Trump's doing his best to shape GOP into the white male grievance party.

He's just capitalizing on white christian males pre-existing acute persecution complex. All that really changed is a couple AA people quit. It's not like there were many women or minorities operating as GOP anyways.

This isnt surprising to me, though, cuz raised a christian conservative and their views towards women in general are much different that their liberal counterparts, even religious liberals.

Republicans were like this long before Trump. Just because a bunch of them continue to stand up and say there is a bridge too far, it won't make me forget the thousands of bridges that weren't. These people are damaged to their core and would vomit all the exact same shit slow vomits here. They all believe all of the same lies. Turtles all the way down.

I wasn't trying to say they were ever much different, so perhaps shape wasn't quite the right word.

More so, just holy shit it's such a monochromatic sausage party it's really mind blowing.

In a perverse way, Trump's politics make sense for the make up of his party, where's he/they are really leaning into the existing structure and have completely abandoned the "self-reflection" and case for change they briefly persued after Obama won.

Good site to keep track of the ever changing scoreboard:

Here's one to add to your thread OP...
A local republican in Michigan just recently walked away from the GOP and politics due to the:

Rep. Paul Mitchell won't run again, complains of 'rhetoric and vitriol' in Washington

U.S. Rep. Paul Mitchell, R-Dryden, a wealthy businessman who spent millions of his own money to win a seat in Congress, said Wednesday he will step down after just two terms in early 2021.

But he also said he's tired of partisan bickering and a lack of legislative progress. "You look at the rhetoric and vitriol, it overwhelms policy, politics becomes the norm," he told Politico. "Everything’s about politics. Everything’s about an election. And at some point of time, that’s not why I came here."

Yea, I know I've said it before, but there's a reason he wouldn't run as a Democrat. The choice for Trump to run, either way, is 100% self serving, his best bet was with republicans by a long shot, he knew it.

A sane Republican party is slowly dying out

These types are what is shaping the party of today.

For example: Laura Loomer has announced her candidacy for Congress.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/anti-m...-for-congress?

She really is the idealized Republican candidate of Trumps Republican party. She really does show exactly what the party stands for.

Hatred.
Trolling.
Stunts.
Insults.
Working closely with Russians.

That is the current Republican policy manual in a nutshell.

If she gets elected I bet she gets reinstated on Twitter. They've already set the precedent that people who violate their terms won't be banned if Twitter leadership deems them "important."

Resignations like Hurd are not a good thing. As traditional Republicans grow tired of the current state of affairs and bail ship they will only be replaced with more extreme viewpoints.

It depends on how that shapes the elections in those areas with resigning Republicans. It's bad if it leads to more GOP replacements who are just that much more fanatical. It's good, however, if it leads to Democrats winning seats that were previously Republican locks, even if it's just because the GOP candidates are off the rails. I expect that Democrats who manage to flip these votes will typically be moderates (if not Blue Dogs), but it'll be an improvement.

Some Rightwing propaganda mill coined the #Walkaway movement, Republican politicians saw it and thought to themselves, "Great idea."

I knew that, I forgot to add.
I fixed it. Thanks.
