Because you teabagger serfs rather give money to whatever Republican moneyed lord. The people of this country are rather pathetic. The only reason we don't have something like universal healthcare is simply because of spite by large swaths of teabagging trash. Trillions of dollars have been given to millionaires and central banks for really little benefit.
Remember when fuck face Rick Santelli was complaining about paying for your neighbors mortgage? Who would have guess the people would rather give a select few wealthy families trillions of dollars than paying for every single person mortgage. What fucking difference does it make if trillions of dollars are going to be squandered. But it matters to the right! FUCK YOUR NEIGHBOR SAYS THE REPUBLICAN. I rather see money go to my wealthy lords they say! So be it.
The facts are so simple.
There was a variety of corrupt insurance industry areas several decades ago, using all kinds of corrupt practices that robbed the public.
Because of certain issues, the reforms that improved that for most insurance had a loophole given that the reforms exempted healthcare insurance.
That loophole has been hugely exploited by the industry. It has led to a healthcare for the American people that has a hugely inflated cost, with something like 30% of that cost going to the inherent inefficiencies of hundreds of firms' separate forms being required, and the private sector's denying so many claims that have to be fought out in paper pushing - and add to that the massive profits of the industry.
This is not an example of capitalism where the efficient private sector supplies a good or service efficiently and competitively; it's a huge waste to profit a few owners.
That profit motive involves such large amounts that they have been able to keep our politicians - mostly the Republicans but many of both - paid off to let them do it.
It's strong enough that attempts at reform have been defeated by their funding (Clinton) or corrupted and gutted by compromises knowing they could (Obama).
This is a huge waste of the people's money, and a huge harm to the quality and availability of healthcare, all for the benefit of a few of the rich.
Ever since the industry marked Ronal Reagan's entry into right-wing politics by hiring him as the AMA's spokesman to try to defeat JFK's Medicare policy proposal, the industry has fought the interests of the American people and defeated the far better single-payer system.
