Republicans to push for censure of Schiff in probe

So the way Schiff is running his investigation prevents the Repubs from polluting and derailing it with the usual lies, innuendo, obfuscation and right wing talking points meant to deceive the concerned and misdirect the proceedings?

Well, way to go Schiff. Keep those rat bastard saboteurs as far away as possible from your and those other investigations into Trump's admitted and suspected acts of malfeasance.

Totalitarians tell useful idiots that covert investigations, secret meetings with "whisle blowers", presenting false evidence, and preventing equal opportunities to political opponents in matters like this is required to ensure the "correct" outcome.

Stop watching Fox News. Tell me what false evidence was presented or how Schiff is preventing equal opportunity to political opponents. I'll be waiting.

Witch hunt!

You are confused. The otalitarians are the political leaders who refuse to comply with the Constitutionally-prescribed Congressional oversight of their adminsitration's activities.

According to what I have heard on NPR even if they could get that passed it would largely be a symbolic measure without much teeth or effect on Rep. Schiff

Whistleblowers are protected under the law, at least some aspects of covert investigations are protected under the law, and political opponents are not entitled to absolutely everything. You also have no justification for saying there's "false evidence."

Actual totalitarians try to out whistleblowers to put their careers and lives at risk. They believe they have a right to interfere with investigations and thwart any attempt to question Dear Leader's behavior. So you support actual totalitarianism, then.

Prior to their 2018 defeat, HOR Republicans changed the rules permittting Schiff to proceed as he has been. They stripped the minority of subpoena power. Mere fact. The law of unintended consequences is biting them in the ass.

The rest is just classic fascist propaganda technique- "accuse the other side of that which you are guilty."

Name ONE THING substantial alleged by the whistleblower that has been proven false.

Totalitarian dupes can't read when it shows their Dear Leader committed a crime and then confessed to it. Trump broke the law and is being impeached for it and don't even think that a quid pro quo is needed as I've posted the law itself and there is no mention of any such requirement.

Get over it.

They'll all get their chance when the trial commences in the Senate. It can all be hashed out legally and the the R's will have a chance to have all their questions answered and prove their case. As of now in the House it's not an open hearing where everybody gets their say and is an equal partner, if you have no business being in certain committee hearings too bad.

What are the Republicans saying Schiff has done wrong to warrant a censure? I mean, specifically. Like with at least one example to back up any claim made.

To maintain a pretend world you just have to keep pretending and all the other pretenders will follow right along. There need be no contact with reality at all. The Pied Piper describes these sorts of things as do lemmings. Mass Psychosis, which burnings, hysteria, you name it, we have seen it all before. When feelings come up thinking undergoes an accelerated state of hallucinatory rapid associations that signal a psychotic break as the ego struggles to repress the feelings. Got to maintain those phony connections between personal identity and sacred beliefs. Without my cult I would be a nobody.

That he lied about what their Divine Leader said to Zelensky. I thought he paraphrased it rather well but it probably looks different from a post-truth perspective.

Trump's latest theater of the absurd regarding Schiff is that he now suddenly claims that Schiff made up all the whistle blower's allegations himself...

No matter that the whistle blower complaint accurately described a telephone conversation that Schiff could never have read until Trump released it three weeks ago.

It just gets more and more surreal by the minute.

What happens doesn't matter, what people believe happened is the only thing that matters. Cultists often follow knowingly to Death premature. Will Dear Leader ask them to die for Him? He keeps hinting at it.

This should be lesson as to the depths Republicans will go to if they ever are in power. What did they attempt to censure Schiff for?

Rudy said it right out loud- truth isn't truth in Trumplandia. It's whatever they can get the rubes to believe in. It's been the GOP way for decades.

Being a citizen of the US these days is like a forced eating of mushrooms behind the looking glass. I pride myself on predicting outcomes from behaviors however all I know about Trump is that his life goals are to say at least three impossible things before breakfast.

If you lack motivation to challenge your own perspectives on something, then all it takes is some piece of information to resolve an exposed discrepancy and move on. There is no need to then fact check it, remember that information, and cross-reference it with other information past or future unless the new information substantively changes the narrative you are inclined to trust.

Truth is, this is normal operation of the human mind. It is productive social behavior. There are so many things out there that we couldn't possibly understand all the details of the things we know. So we don't do around questioning everything we think we know. That's because we are social creatures and trust that, if something does come up which exposes a gap in that you think you know, you can always turn to the trusted others to fill those gaps. Such as good old Google. Or your doctor. Etc.

The critical problem is we're also programmed to group together based on shared perspectives/cooperative intents. Thus, what we recognize as a trusted source isn't strictly related to their underlying trustworthiness. It is only when a discrepancy in that trustworthiness is exposed which can't be repaired without altering the established narrative that we tend to question if we've misplaced our trust. After that happens, in fact, it can be hard to reestablish the lost trust even even we learn that our reasons for questioning the trust were misguided. This is why conspiracy theories and other misinformation campaigns are so toxic. The implications they carry tend to stick if we ever attached our understanding to them even after they have been exposed as patently false.

This behavior is understandably productive in a tribal society. If challenging the way of life of your own group leads to you being excommunicated and not accepted by the other groups in exchange, then it wouldn't be very productive behavior to engage in very often. Yet there does need to be mechanism for change, and this is more likely accomplished through regime change/revolution than any kind of reasoned evaluation of reality.
