And look at the spike before Clinton showed up and Bush.

Always when things change, some do not like the fact that things changed.

If the American people wanted to have the entire government without any opposition, they could do so. They didn't, and the minority party is supposed to pursue it's agenda just like the majority party is supposed to pursue it's agenda. Each will then accuse the other of obstruction depending on which way the current political winds blow.

Thankfully, Republicans won't have filibuster as an option. Maybe they'll start working to shape the legislation instead of obstructing it.

If you feel the need to insult people by calling them children, it might help to spell "stamp" properly. Just saying...

They can't help shape anything if the democrats have no intention of working with them. Without the threat of a filibuster, the dems have no need to compromise on anything, and they've already shown that they have nothing but contempt for the "other side" --- very much like during the GWB years the republicans showed nothing but contempt for the "other side".

This is perhaps the most important thread ever started in P&N. It shows the change in the two party system in America. Where before the party out of power would rarely filibuster it is now a common occurence. It basically means you need 60 votes to get anything done. And for most of the time neither party has 60 members.
This may be the leading cause of our race to fascism. As the Congress is increasingly powerless the President has more and more power. And Americans feel less and less strongly that their Republic can work. Hence, they are turning towards the fascist "leader" principle.
And there is now one party that has actually put forth a completely new version of the Constitution claiming the President was meant to have enormous powers and the Congress only the ability to allocate a sum of money, which the President can then spend as he pleases.
The American race to fascism continues...

The two party system is IMO, a massive failure. The world just isn't black and white, there are all sorts of colors and shades. It's clear that instead of working as two parts of the same team trying to accomplish the same goal (perhaps in different ways), the parties are working more toward gaining power for the party individually - consequences for the country be damned.

All the "democrats suck" and "republicans suck" type of posts on the forums (you know who you are) make it clear that the parties have succeeded in conning the public into thinking they need to pick one or the other and that one or the other is always right. They don't want the public to figure out that there need to be more options and more alternatives.

Yes, this is certainly the sole domain of Republicans

Some of you really need to step back and listen to yourselves talk.

So under the new order, is dissent no longer the highest form of patriotism? Are we no longer concerned about the tyrany of the majority? No, the dems have never stomped their foot when they didn't get their way. They're too high on the evlutionary ladder and morally superior to resort to such low means.

Liberal dissent is patriotic. Conservative dissent is just obstructionism. Get it straight.
