I agree with Haybasusa and others, who state these type of threads tend to make P&N
worthless and idiotic.
As various right wing Republican posters say their reasoning is the only way to look at the debt spending question.
As we have various other democratic type posters saying their way of reasoning s the only correct way to look at the debt spending questions.
As we have a basic logical Mexican standoff.
So to resolve that question, maybe we should look at history when the GOP threatened to shut down the US government in 1998, After the dust settled in the election of 11/1998. The GOP got dope slapped by the American electorate. Next Gingrich resigned as speaker of the house, and has not held public office ever since. Then in 11/2000, American elected GWB, a big spending republican, and ole GWB and his merry band of neo-cons had succeeded in crashing the American and world economy. 11/2008 was certain to be a democratic year. But because the GOP Senate minority was just large enough to maintain a filibuster we got gridlock instead. And the fickle American voter made 11/2010, a Republican year with a strange new party never seen before called the Tea party. As we got more gridlock in the second half of Obama's first term in office and another GOP attempt to shut down the USA government. Nor did the Tea party promise pan out that their wisdom would improve the American economy. And by 11/2012, the American electorate again punished the GOP, as the the democrats substantially cut down the GOP majority in the House, increased the democratic majority in the Senate, and re elected Obama.
And now new congress has barely concerned, and the GOP right wing tried to shut down the US government. Mitch McConnell at least got a favorable compromise for the GOP in the Senate by hanging tough till the last minute, and Boehner in the house had to rely on the democrats in the House to avoid the fiscal cliff. As only 82 GOP House members voted for the deal. Next up will be raising the Federal borrowing limit.
And maybe the GOP will balk on that one, Thereby crashing the US economy and reducing the US credit rating. And if the GOP does so, we can then answer the thread question in 11/2014 when we may be able to count the number of GOP members elected to the House and Senate with the fingers on one hand.
GOP President Hoover tried the same thing in 1932, and the GOP did not win the Presidency for 2 decades or have a house majority for 62 years.
