I'm pretty sure these guys don't actually care all that much. They do this for appearances only. They're snake-oil salesmen, peddling their fraudulent wares in the form of ideas to narrowminded religious conservatives that they're good christians and therefore deserve to be in power.

Btw, thanks for linking an image of the good Captain. IMO, you can never have too much Picard.
 
Maybe they should have a prayer for tens of thousands who die unnecessarily due to lack of insurance, instead of the insurance industry.

Well, you know, earthquakes are purely natural events, so they'd fall under God's jurisdiction. I'd be asking him what the deal is for causing it, but...you know, it doesn't work like that when you use the spherical anti-logic of religion.

And yeah, I'm sure God has nothing better to do than influence our legislation.

More fun: Why do you need to have more than one person praying for the same thing? Does God act only if there's a majority vote?

Don't know about Republicans, but you'll find a huge share of rebuilding Haiti will be by people getting together with others in their churches and helping out at their expense.

That's how it's always been.
 
The irony here is that a true Christian nation (i.e. one founded on the actual teachings of Jesus in the Gospels) would be a pure socialism, like what the Mormons attempted in Utah over 100 years ago.

First, you're confusing the New Testament with the Old.

Second, Matthew 22:21: "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." Look it up. While doing so, also read chapters 5 and 6 (Sermon on the Mount). The last half of chapter 19 is also a good one on this subject.
To Jesus, taxation - when for the benefit of the poor and sick - was not theft, but an obligation to God.

I'm not telling you my personal beliefs, so don't act like I am. This is the Jesus of the Gospels. C'mon, Mr. 160 IQ... you quote the Quran all the time but you've never read the Bible?

I'm not familiar with these books just asking because that's an agreement I've heard against taxation by Chirstains.

I'll start reading them when they start killing in masse - until then men in the sky in this case have no interest to me other than why you'd say that Christains favor socialism when I've heard the opposite for so many years based on "thou shall not steal"

Christianity, unfortunately, has a long history of killing en masse, which continues up until this day. Christianity also has a long history of socialism (socialism wasn't invented by Marx FYI). And the dickwads who call themselves Christian Conservatives today seem to be blissfully unaware that Ayn Rand was a rabid atheist who hated their guts.

First, the vast majority of Democrats are Christians.

Second, most of those mother earth worshipers are just as hypocritical in the observance of their faith as most Christians are in the observance of theirs.

Jesus had nothing to say about taxation at all. The reason for "render to Caesar what is Caesars" was because the Pharisees tried to trap him. If Jesus said that he approved of Caesars taxation he would be scorned by the Jews. If he said tax should not be paid then he'd be arrested.

How he got around that was to ask who's name was on a coin, which was Caesars.

His response was to give to the Caesar what was his, but give to God what was Gods.

You comment about Christianity being socialistic, isn't exactly true, because socialism isn't voluntary. How the early Church worked according to Paul is that people freely gave and took as they needed. Yes, they shared, but it wasn't taxation. No one was compelled to give.

Of course they were. If they didn't 'give' (and freely) in the Church of Paul, they'd be excommunicated. In the Church of Peter in Rome a couple hundred years later, they'd probably be executed. The post-Constantine Roman empire was practically a 'machine state' socialism. Church and State were absolutes.

Read the last half of Matthew 6 and tell me again that any 'true' follower of Christ wouldn't pay any form of taxation voluntarily.
Matthew 22 is a bit more complicated as "what was Caesar's" wasn't taxation, but tribute to an occupying army.

He who prays publicly is instantly rewarded by others just as ignorant who say look they must be Holy for they are praying. They recieved their reward by the ignorants words of praise for public prayer.

Secondly those who would pass judgement shall be trampled over . Beware.

That is true, well almost, 80%+ will go to that churches furthering and 10% to administative costs, naturally, a priest needs his mansion.
