Ever since it passed Republicans have been trying to kill it. In 2013 they went to SCOTUS in the Shelby v Holder case and managed to get the pre-cleearence portion killed. That meant states with a history of racial discrimination had to get permission in advance before changes to voting rules/districts. Sam Alito led the charge claiming it wasn't fair to those states because discrimination in America had ended.

SCOTUS today is hearing a case that would effectively end the Civil Rights Act. If they succeed it will allow Republicans to change districts again to effectively draw blacks out of any political power which is what they did before. Example Louisiana which is 33% black had 2 minority districts drawn. Those would go away. Republicans across the country would use this ruling to redraw lines in every state where they have control. Same shit happened after the Shelby case in 2013. Like SCOTUS always does they could get this done before the midterms.

What's going to be the Calvinball logic of SCOTUS? I would be shocked if they kept the VRA. Roberts would have to go back on himself basically

Roberts's Constitution doesn't have section 2 of the 15th Amendment (Congress has the authority and power to pass legislation on voting rights).
