I see that these forums tend to be more Democratic, but I really wanted to see. Please vote as I am doing this for a project. Thanks in advance!

I have not voted but I can pretty much say with certainty that most of the people you think(correctly) are "democrats" will choose "Independent" in your poll. They think they are the "middle" and "open minded" so they should be considered "Independent" but in reality they are liberals who side with the Democrats on almost everything.

I am a Conservative who happens to belong to the Republican party because there is no other "party" that represents most of my views. If there were to be a non-kook libertarian party or a real Constitutional party(again non-kook) then I'd gladly join it and kick the R to the curb. Nationally I'm not to pleased but locally and state wise I support mostly R candidates and will actively campaign for them.

Not true. I'm to the left of the Democratic Party which is a center-right party.

Thus I stated "most". You happen to fall way to the left so that doesn't work anyway since you wouldn't call yourself "Independent" then.

That's because anyone who voted for Dubya is too dumb to use a computer.

Registered Democrat, but only so I could vote in NY's Democratic Primaries. I don't wholly agree with either major party.

I am an "independent", but in real life you have to choose between the "D" and the "R" when it comes right down to it, and I would say 75% of the time I would have to choose the "R". But it really si sad these days, I am a social liberal and a fiscal conservative, but that really isn't either party. So I choose the fiscal conservatism to win out, but these days it seems no politician fits my definition of fiscally conservative, its only a question of HOW liberal they are with my hard earned money.

The Republicans are a 'kook' party too. Have you seen some of the whackos that are their most outspoken voting blocs? But then again, the same can said of the Democrats.

The fact is that terms like right, left, liberal, conservative have NO meaning whatsoever in defining Republicans and Democrats. Not now and not at any time in the past. It's just something you guys made up a couple decades ago.

I was surprised to see that I wasn't the only one to choose "Not sure". :)

I consider myself centrist but have mostly sided with the Dems. At least for the Presidential race, it's looking like I'll be a Republican this year.

Why not?

My point is how do you define "Independent" politically?

Not for me. I I find both parties distasteful and nether represents my views closely enough. I belong to the anti-exploitation party.

I generally lean conservative / capitalist. So, I don't have a party this election cycle. I voted independent.

I do not like either party. Give me one that serves the people before the elected elite class. Republicans used to stand for that but they betrayed the people and do us no more justice than the socialists.

All in the name of electability.

I've been a Democrat for over 35 years. I've NEVER voted for a republican candidate.
What pisses me off is that the ultra-liberals have taken over the fucking party. I'm just a bit left of most mainstream repubs, but being union almost all my life, I could never vote for the party that wanted to hurt my ability to earn.

Democrat I am, liberal I ain't.

My views haven't changed much in my adult life, yet, I see the Republican party drifting farther and farther away from me... like a lonely eskimo on an iceberg.

In the back of my mind I harbor a secret fantasy that, if McCain is elected, enough disaffected Rs will slide to the Libertarian party to make it viable. It sits right next to the fantasy about Julia Stiles falling madly in love with me.

Screw both of em, I no longer see them as separate entities but as the left and right hand of a criminal cabal.

I hate Communists. I hate Fascists.

Unfortunately, we have a growing number of both types of wolves appearing in sheep's clothing in both parties. I will remain an Independent, and pleasurably note that today is July 4th!

I consider myself of the Green Party, and since that or 3rd party isn't an option, i voted independent.
