He hasn't returned to them. This tells me he does not stand with them. If he publicly denounces them and/or their cause... that's good enough for me. Oppression is not coming back. Let's not pretend that's even on the table.

So last night I just happened to catch this on one of those MSNBC shows.. they had Ed "Cheese Steak" Rendell on, and naturally being progressive water carrier that he is, he added his opinion on the matter - which naturally was condemning Scalise, the racist Republican..

Something he said I had to almost laugh, at the hypocrisy.. to paraphrase, ".. it is wrong for a politician to speak in front of a group of people that call for a separate land for whites only.."

obviously that is wrong 🙄

it is however, perfectly OK for a politician to speak before a group of people who call for a separate land/area for blacks only and who openly advocate for all sorts of different "black only" entities.. 😵

I swear, anything these idiot talking heads whine and complain about in regards to the "evil" Republicans are really things that their "side" has done, is doing and will continue to do. I would bet everything I own that had this been a Democrat leader, nearly all the big media outlets would gloss over it very briefly if not ignore it altogether.

Over and over again I hear how bad race relations are, and oh woe what can we do to improve those relations - First, stop giving the race hustlers and poverty pimps any coverage and attention. It's hard to have any real dialog without turning on the news or opening up the newspaper to constantly see and hear some asshole cry "Racist! Racist! He / She is a Racist!"

Actually Wright didn't say or do anything wrong. The quote "God Damn America" was from a sentence that said God will punish the country if it doesn't do right by its people. Quote was rung through Fox News, Drudge and regurgitated.

BTW - Michelle Bachman said essentially the same thing in front of A Jewish group and nobody gave two hoots.

Well, seems like there needs to a little more 'investigative journalism' done on this matter.

Anyho, I stopped in to say that I think the important thing would be to find out what he said at the gathering (assuming he did attend). I've read that he says he was there to get support for his legislative efforts etc. If we can find out what he said at the gathering, we'll know much better.

Didn't Obama associate with a domestic terrorist before he ran for president? Does that imply that he stands with domestic terrorists now or that he just chose one guy he hung out with poorly?

Shrug, this should have came out a long time ago if it was relevant. The fact that we are just now talking about it 12 years later makes it not ping my give-a-fuck o-meter.

Full disclosure, I am one of his constituents and I don't particularly care for him but my reasons are for what he has done recently, doing in the present, and likely to do in the future.

IMHO, the reason we can't get any decent politicians is because of the shit show you, and your family, must go through to become one of them. You either have to be absolutely squeaky clean, able to spin the embarrassment, or (most often) good enough to cover up and hide your dirty little secrets. Personally I am more worried how someone will vote once elected and don't really give a fuck who they were banging in college (or right now for that matter) or if they got a DWI after a frat party. I don't give a fuck if they are cheating on their wives, between him and his wife imo, I don't give a fuck if he (or she) likes to get gang banged by a dozen bikers once a month.

But we are America and we like nothing better than our reality TV which is basically what our elections have turned into.

"Stands with them" probably meant his staff got a call, "hey come stop by our meeting and we'll donate to your campaign". Staffer sets the appointment, case closed.

You think they sell themselves as donning white robes and holding rope? I seriously doubt that. "Advancement of white heritage" sounds an awful lot like the NAACP or La Raza. Advancement of one race over another. Either way they're doing it wrong, but one side of that coin is politically acceptable. That's my beef.

It's not choosing poorly, it's more like a poor excuse. I think it speaks volumes about someone's character if they think hanging with the likes of white supremacists or domestic terrorist will further their political career. Myself personally I wouldn't be caught dead in a room with white supremacists and if I were in the same room with Bill Ayers you would have a hard time keeping me from beating his ass until he stops moving.

The constitution allows for those organizations to exists. It also allows for Steve Scalise to go and speak anywhere they wish, we just collectively need to hold people we elect to office to a higher standard.

As anyone who associates with those groups should be. Only... the President has spoken for both NAACP and La Raza. Their very names for racist purpose. Not for the betterment of all people, but "their" people.

What is Steve Scalise guilty of, that the public accepts from EVERY OTHER person? If their white it's a racist group that is banned. If not, they're a "civil rights" group. That's a standard of racism that cannot be accepted.

I don't think he needs to go. I have no idea what his personal opinion on the subject of race might be. I know he can't win his district w/o at least being highly tolerant of lingering racist sentiment, maybe worse. It's the nature of his constituency & a common thread among all southern conservative politicians. The party of Lincoln has been transformed into something different entirely.

I like the fact that he can man-up over a lapse in judgment back in 2002. I'll take him at his word until shown otherwise.
 
Yeah I wouldn't string the guy up for basically doing his job who is to say he even knew it was anything racist. Unless some concrete evidence is found that he himself is racist I don't see anything wrong with speaking in the company of racists. It says more about his constituency than him.
