How do the Democrats really own this? Republicans were fine with people starving and not getting paid, and are still in charge of the government.

I think people fail to understand the fundamental problem in government: the minority party has little power, especially when the majority party is filled with psychos. It's just going to be a series of bad choices until you can get rid of enough psychos.

A the end of the day the simple fact is that Republicans and Trump are more than willing to starve 40M people, cancel the holidays, and fuck over federal workers just to ensure that the healthcare premiums of millions will triple. It's depraved but Americans made them the majority party so they are behind the wheel. Without confidence that political pain from the shutdown will cause them to relent there really aren't many options.

That said the Senate turncoats who from the beginning were with the Republicans (Fetterman, King, Cortez-Masto) should absolutely be out of jobs. Anybody up in 26 should draw a credible primary challenger and need to defend themselves and grovel for our forgiveness. Schumer for his part over the last year should be deposed as minority leader and announce his retirement for 2028. Democratic senators need to fear Democratic primary voters more than they fear Republican voters to override Senate Brain Syndrome because if we end up with a trifecta again it CANNOT be wasted on these weak fucking people.
