This actually goes for all federal govt functions. Civil servants working full time on excepted work who weren’t well prepared to go without pay will have to quit to make money elsewhere. Eventually even those of us who are prepared will have to quit to make money.

Contractors can in some cases take over critical tasks but eventually their forward funding runs out and they are in the same boat

Basically Mike Johnson and Trump are relying on loans from the personal finances of govt workers, private banks and credit issuers who allow 0% loans, and deep pocketed contractors to keep the whole house of cards up while they fuck around.

Is my memory so shot that I dont remember a huge impact on air travel during the last shutdown?!?!
 
The syphilitic orange menace was denied a last minute appeal by the Federal Appeals court to continue to starve 42,000,000 of its citizens.

Now the lard ass has now filed an emergency application for be able to starve its citizens, with the supreme court.

Also a Fed Judge (appointed by the orance menace) , has been ordered to stay the F-out of Oregon.

I, too don't remember when the orange menace shut down in Dec 2018.

Looks like the air traffic controllers weren't a real issue.

I think they used military controllers and supervisors to run the air traffic.
It took years to get back to "normal" LIke 10 years.

After a 20 year spotless Air Force career as a FAC during the Vietnam war, SAC, NORAD, and radar operator my father was hired at the Hancock Field ATC upon his retirement.

Seven months later, he was summarily fired by that piece of shit, Reagan because he wouldn't cross a picket line or agree to work during the walkout . He was crushed and spiraled into the bottle for about a year.

My mother being the bad ass that she was eventually yanked him up into sobriety.

Shit eventually worked out for him and he invested into a string of three filling/service stations. Back then they were full service and a New York State inspection facility.

From that day he never missed a chance to disparage the Republicans. When I was old enough to understand it all I was enraged.

Democrats: Let’s reopen the government today, extend the health insurance subsidies for one year, then let the voters decide in the midterms if they want to extend them further or cancel them.

Dems are asking to extend the ACA subsidies for one year, and let voters decide. Trump can't be bothered. He is too busy trying to solve his buddy Orban's energy problem.

Jackson's 48 hour admin stay is to give the First Circuit a chance to issue their denial of a stay, likely today. Then John Roberts will have to decide if he actually wants to enter a longer stay and take full public responsibility for starving 40 million people for Christmas.

That guy looks like an FA. But yeah he's giving good info. International ($$$) and hub-to-hub ($$) flights will be protected at all costs. Routes to intermediate ($) and smaller airports (-$) get the short end of the stick first.

Going full Hoover on a population that has not in most people's living memories endured what historians would define as a "very difficult time" seems more likely to end with Trump dead or in exile in Moscow than a successful authoritarian consolidation of power.

They're gonna get away with it all since they have all the power and run the levers of power.

Trump is basically a king at this point.. and we have exactly what they want.. a government that doesn't work so it isn't needed and the country can be run by dictator's whims!

Can't wait to fly home to ME on Tuesday...

I ended up changing my mid-morning flight that would get me home in the late afternoon to the first flight out, in the hopes that earlier flights might be protected because of the reduced rates of arrivals/departures from hubs at those times.

It's going to suck having a 6am out of New Orleans and connecting in DC, but I want to get home.
