This was merely one of 1500 submitted ads. Those ads were winnowed down to 15 finalists, which can be viewed here. This is just another attempt by the RNC to snipe at a powerful new organization that is accomplishing something pretty rare in politics; innovation. No conservative organizations have come close to an ad like this one.

Havent been there, but this is no suprise. It's an old trick. Someone makes a clearly outrageous claim, then the party being attacked uses it, and cries how wronged they are. This invokes sympathy and diverts attention away from them and issues, and towards something completely specious. Better, in this case they can drag the Dems in. If they make comment for it, they are fried. If they decry it, they imply support for the Reps. The best way to win this game is not to play.

Again, this is a contest to find the flagship TELEVISION ads. 1500 ads were submitted. Ads were ONLY pulled if they contained obsenities or horrible video quality. Moveon.org members voted on those ads and 15 finalists were chosen. Guess what? The hitler ad LOST. So it is now ONLY hosted by the RNC in order to claim that Moveon.org and (somehow by association) the democrats are comparing bush to hitler. This is false. The only people comparing bush to hitler were the contestants involved in the submitted ad. It was harsh and shrill and therefore lost the vote. If you want to see the finalists go to this site. Oh wait, you guys are always content with republican lies, the truth seems to hurt too much

Is the RNC also hosting all 4-hours of "The Reagans" TV mini-series? I'd be interested in watching that too. :)

READ and pay attention -
"One of the ads that was submitted that they considered viable for airing ? with $7 million, by the way, in funds that we don't know where it comes from, but we know they've said they'd spend $7 million to air the ad that they've settled on ? one of them morphed President Bush into Adolf Hitler," explained Gillespie. "Those are the kind of tactics we're seeing on the left today in support of these Democratic presidential candidates."

Now again - where did he credit MoveOn.org for the ad? Did he not state that it was submitted?
Also, for the second time now, He called on the candidated "to repudiate an ad posted on the Moveon.org website". He did not say they(MoveOn) were responsible for creating it. He attributed blame to "the left" - which is exactly where it belongs. Don't like it? Tough, the left aired the Osama/dean ad; the left posted these TWO Bush/hitler ads. Seems to me that you should be blasting the left for their poor taste in ads.

Meh - believe what you wish though:)

Get over it. Rush has often inserted middle-eastern type middle names into Democrat pols. A potential ad is no worse.

In this New York Post editorial Howard Dean (and his supporters) is (/are) compared to nazis and fascists, brownshirts, Goebbles, Trotsky, Lenin, the Bolsheviks, Gorbachev and Brezhnev. Where's the outrage from Ed Gillespie and the conservatives seeing as how this was printed in a newpaper while the Bush ad was one among 1500 ads on an internet site?? These are the kind of tactics we're seeing on the right today in support of George Bush.

"looking for his Leni Riefenstahl". Good grief.

"Dean's Weenies"? How old is Peters?

And people pay hard currency for this "thinking"?

Oh, well, it is only a little more than is done on a daily basis by the Fox Cartoon Network.

i fail to see how they are innovating. is it through their ads or something? or is it because they were founded for one purpose [to defend/protect Clinton during his impeachment hearings] and now theyve switched to a new purpose [Bush bashing]?

Man the democrats are morons. They way they are going, it looks like they WILL be losing 8-12 house seats and 4-6 Senate seats in this years election. Attacks like theses do not help their cause, it only hurts them.

And mark my word. The democrat party will split in the next 6-10 years. Theres those that follow the Clintons and follow their will, and then theres the other 35-40%. I dont know, The Clintonites annoy the crap out of me, but the other 35-40% is farther left, so they annoy me more. The democrats are killing themselves this time around, Bush could have both hands tied behind his back and still blow out any of the democrats. The democrats need to get their sh!t together or there will be a split.

The democrats are where they are because of their own incompetence.

This stuff is nothing new. The only difference is the last few years the decibel level has risen and we hear more cheap shots like this one. The N.Y. Post article is the other side of the coin.

I suspect in a few more election cycles the nature of both the Democratic and Republican Parties will change dramatically. The Republicans appear to be undergoing greater change than the Dems. The Neocons will ultimately split from most Conservatives if the current trends continue.

It amazing how much you can infer based on the actions of 2 out of 1500 parties in an internet contest. And by this theory, the Republicans are getting hurt much more, as I just pointed to an attack that was broadcast to a much larger audience.

Republicans should quit their b!tchin' -- they're starting to come off as whiny little girls who stamp around when they don't get their way and then remind you about the time that you did this or that for years afterwards... The responsibility for the video doesn't climb up the heirarchy just 'cause the RNC thinks it does. The individual who produced it should bear the brunt of the ire, not necessarily MoveOn and certainly not the dem candidates who have no direct influence on the former.

And if you'd read the comments of the RNC - you'd understand that he wasn't blaming MoveOn directly for the ad - only that they posted it(which they said was their error) and he called on the 9 dwarves to renounce it.

But ofcourse the "whining" you seem to think is coming from the right - has been consistently drowned out by the left's whining about the "right wing", Falwell, Ashcroft, and Rush Limbaugh. But whatever - they both do their share of bitching.

MoveOn.org has pulled the ads and has basically said they shouldn't have been posted - that's fine with me...for now:)

So it's the Democratic candidates' job to do PR for Bush? If he doesn't like the ads he should come out and repudiate them himself.

As it turns out the ad never aired, and was submitted by someone on the website for the contest. I guess Gullespie expects the Democratic candidates for president to come out and repudiate everyone who attacks Bush. I wonder if he expects Bush to repudiate everyone who decides to attack any of the Democratic candidates. This is the same party that is running ads bashing Dean for... you guessed it, saying "Thank you very very much."
