Republic Wireless question

Hiya guys. So i am trying to get a new phone for my wife. Been reading up on posts about Republic Wireless and what they offer look promising (wife wants to save $$). The question I have is that the Moto G they have, can I root it so that if things don't work out I can take it to another carrier? If i have to go on business trip to Mexico or Canada, does the phone works there?

And.. does anyone has referral code? =P

Republic wireless uses the sprint network (cdma) which really isn't compatible with any other provider.
Also, root has nothing to do with being able to take it to another service provider.

Ah I see. Thank you ImD. I have always thought that rooting would unlock the OS as I heard RW uses modified Android to make its wifi and cell switch better. I guess I am just afraid that by buying RW phone I will be locked in with them. But their plans are so attractive.

You are correct in that they have some modified software. I suppose you would be able to flash it to something stock, but you'd then only be able to take it to Sprint because the radio hardware is really only going to be compatible with Sprint. And Sprint will basically not activate a phone that is not sold by them.

You just need to find out how good Sprint's 3G CDMA network is in your area. If the coverage seems good, then you'll be fine.

The phones are fairly cheap anyways so is imagine you'd be able to recoup most of the money you spend on it if you decide to do something else.

i got the moto G for my mom and niece. works great so far. if they ever get tired of the phones, they can always return to me and i will use it as a music player or security camera

hard to believe not more people are on RW. guess its because of the limited phone options...

If they had iPhones I might consider it at some point. Might be possible with iOS 8 having wifi calling now.

I would get on RW in a heart beat if their phones work outside of US, as I have to travel several times a month between US and Canada/Mexico, and couple times a year to Asia or Europe. =/

They work on wifi anywhere on earth or space. In the US they work on Sprint too and roam on Verizon.

Ohhh, i thought the wifi is limited to US. That does it, ordering one Moto G now. Thanks everyone!
