We were talking about Jargon and slang because it pertained to the chapter we were reading. Someone brought up Ebonics and how it is a language I was asked my opinion on it. My opinion was that it was NOT a language it simply an attempt by uneducated people to speak English and a poor attempt at that. I was told that I was narrow minded and that my response was borderline racist. WTF is that about?? You asked my opinion and you got it.

Don't piss off professors if you want a good grade. Even if you know they're wrong. Most of them hold grudges, and will fvck you anytime they can.

ummmm... it is college. I mean most public colleges are liberal in their thinking.

I think some of it is slang and interesting, but I would never want to speak that way unless I could use it and not use it by choice. It is a language because it is a way of communicating that must be learned but...
The African Americans I know that can speak clear English and also Eubonics (I think it is a language and more props to them). When it is the only thing they can speak, I think it is an outcome of the uneducated.

1) A language is something that allows communications in a structured way. Ebonics fits that definition entirely. Thus, ebonics is a language. One could argue that it is an English dialect and not an entirely different language of course. But it is still a language.

2) Correlation is not causation. Just because you speak Ebonics does not mean you are uneducated. Yes, they are often linked, but you are incorrect if you state that they always go together.

3) I take your comments as being uneducated. It is also borderline racist.

Grade is based on 4 papers. I have 1 A and 2 B's. Each paper is 25% of your FINAL grade as stated in the course outline. I have the papers with the Grades. Let her try to fail me...

Didn't realize you were that far into the semester. Quarter System?

She may still be able to screw you if she gives you a D or F on the final paper. You'd wind up with a C/C+. If that happens, I would make sure you go to the proper authorities.

but i do agree it shouldn't be credited as being called "a language". it's just word play.
